Esther Earl Life

Esther Grace Earl (August 3, 1994 – August 25, 2010) was an American author, internet vlogger, social media personality, and Nerdfighter, as well as an activist in the Harry Potter Alliance.

Earl befriended author John Green, who credited her with the inspiration to write his best-selling 2012 book The Fault in Our Stars, prior to her death from cancer in 2010.

Earl's books, which appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for young adult books, were compiled in 2014.

Early life and activism

Earl was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, to Wayne and Lori (née Krake) Earl, one of five siblings. The Earls, who The Boston Globe describes as "self-described wanderers," travelled between Saudi Arabia, Massachusetts, and France. She lived in Medway for a time before transferring with her family to North Quincy and attending North Quincy High School.

Earl was "one of the first nerdfighters" in 2007, according to Margaret Talbot of The New Yorker states. Initially, the two developed an online community of Vlogbrothers supporters, who identifies herself as a Nerdfighter, a member of Nerdfighteria. Earl Green developed her friendship with him after being invited to LeakyCon 2009, a Harry Potter convention. Following the conference, she will remain active in the Nerdfighter community, including her involvement with the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) and their award of a $250,000 grant, after Green encouraged voters to vote "with Esther" for the HPA.

Earl began a website with names like Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube.
