She began her career on television sitcoms before settling on the short-lived first African-American prime time drama Under One Roof (CBS, 1995). Atkins is best known for her appearances on television comedies.

Career
In 1986, Atkins began her career as a teenage guest on NBC's The Cosby Show. During the following years, she appeared on sitcoms including Family Matters before landing a co-leading role opposite James Earl Jones and Vanessa Bell Calloway in the short-lived first African-American prime time soap opera Under One Roof in 1995. Keri Russell co-starred with Keri Russell in the NBC teen soap opera Malibu Shores, which happened the following year. In 1993, one of her television appearances was in Saved by the Bell's spin-off Saved by the Bell's Saved by the Bell: The College Years. She appeared in the pilot, but Atkins' character was left out when Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, a regular from the start, opted to return.
