Career

Thomson appeared on television in New Zealand, starting with Marlin Bay, a drama set in a casino and resort. He gained a following following for his occasional appearances in the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Young Hercules, which were both shot in New Zealand.

Thomson moved to Australia in 1995 and landed in regular roles in Pacific Drive, medical drama All Saints (1999–2003) and The Alice (2005). He has appeared on such films as Wildside and Definitely Greener. On the Seven Network dramedy series Packed to the Rafters, Dave Rafter appeared from 2008 to 2013. He was the first person to play 800 Words from 2015 to 2018.

In America, Thomson's theatre career includes appearances in Complete Works of Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Twelve Angry Men, and Angels.

Simon Mollison appeared in the 2008 film The Black Balloon with Toni Collette, one of Thomson's film credits. He appeared in Somersault with Abbie Cornish and Sam Worthington, winning him an AFI Award, and was also included in Accident Happens with Geena Davis.
