She serves as both a primary substitute anchor and a reporter.

She co-anchored Weekend Today from 2012 to 2016, after doing work at CBS since 2008.

Personal life

Hill was born in Clinton, Connecticut, on July 20, 1976, the granddaughter of Cheryl and Steven Holmes Hill. She earned a BA in Journalism from Boston University in 1998. Alpha Epsilon Phi is a member. She speaks in French fluently. Hill married David Yount on October 15, 2005, and her first son, Jonathan Hill, was born on November 25, 2006.

Hill began her journalism career in 1998 as a production assistant for "PC Week Radio," the magazine's online news service. She also served as a conference coordinator for the Software Publishers Association Europe during this time. She worked at TechTV from 2000 to 2003 as part of the TechTV News network, later known as TechLive. She served as reporter from 2000 to 2001, and then as reporter and reporter for the program from 2001 to 2003. She is best known for her live coverage of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when she was working for TechTV.

Hill joined CNN's Headline News channel in January 2003 and spent time as a general news anchor for various services. She began working as a national correspondent for CNN Newsource in 2004. She co-anchored Prime News Tonight from 2005 to 2006 before becoming anchor of Prime News with Erica Hill from 2006 to 2008. She began providing Anderson Cooper 360° (AC360°) news in April 2005 and was named a full-time member in February 2008. During the transition from November 2009 to January 2010, Hill also co-anchored CNN Tonight.

Hill was named the new co-anchor of The Early Show on CBS on Saturday on September 22, 2008, after filling in on a temporary basis six weeks earlier. On September 27, 2008, she appeared on her first show as the permanent anchor. She continued to appear on AC360° for CNN until January 8, 2010, when it was announced on AC360° that she would leave CNN and join CBS News.

Hill will be replacing Russ Mitchell on the weekday version of The Early Show, and the Early Show cast officially welcomed Hill to the program on January 13, 2010. In Katie Couric's absence, Hill anchored the CBS Evening News on June 29 and July 5, 2010. Hill was also the primary female anchor on The Early Show in June 2010, with Maggie Rodriguez on maternity leave. Although Scott Pelley was in Afghanistan on October 4, 2011, Hill anchored the CBS Evening News.

Erica Hill, co-anchor of CBS' The Early Show, was announced on November 30, 2010. Charlie Rose and Gayle King, co-anchors of a new CBS News morning show, CBS This Morning, which premiered on November 15, 2011. Norah O'Donnell, CBS This Morning's late 2012, revealed on CBS This Morning on July 26, 2012. Hill served as a Special Correspondent for CBS News from September 2012 to November 1, 2012, contributing to all CBS broadcasts, although she never appeared on television.

Hill will co-anchor and will serve as an NBC News national correspondent beginning on November 1, 2012, according to NBC. "Erica's remarkable track record as a journalist has shown that she can cover everything from hard news to pop culture with ease and professionalism," NBC News president Steve Capus said. She's a fantastic addition to Weekend Today and I'm delighted to welcome her to NBC News. On April 3, 2016, Hill announced on Monday that she would no longer be on the Weekend Today show in order to spend more time with family, but that MSNBC and NBC Nightly News will continue daily news coverage.

Hill was announced on June 6, 2016, as the anchor of a daytime news show and also contribute to CNN. "On the Story with Erica Hill," her daily television news show, premiered in October 2016.

Erica Hill, CNN's lead fill-in anchor and national reporter, was announced on April 19, 2018. On The Story, her HLN show On The Story, which originated from New York City, will be ended. Lynn Smith, a former Weekend Express anchor, was appointed as host in March 2019.
