Eric Ripert Life

Éric Frank Ripert (born 2 March 1965) is a French chef, author and television personality specializing in modern French cuisine and noted for his work with seafood.Ripert's flagship restaurant, Le Bernardin, located in New York City, has been ranked among the best restaurants in the world by culinary magazines and currently ranks No.17 on the annual list of "The World's 50 Best Restaurants".

It holds the maximum ratings of four stars from The New York Times and three stars from the Michelin Guide.

Early life and education

Ripert was born in France and learned to cook at a young age from his mother. When he was young, his family moved to Andorra, where he was raised. He later returned to France and attended a culinary school in Perpignan.

Personal life

Ripert and his wife Sandra (née Nieves) have a son. He has said on the Anthony Bourdain show No Reservations, that he had become a Buddhist.

On 8 June 2018, Ripert was travelling with his friend, American TV personality and culinary connoisseur Anthony Bourdain, who was working on an episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in Strasbourg, France. Ripert found Bourdain dead from an apparent suicide by hanging in Bourdain's hotel room at Kaysersberg-Vignoble.

Culinary career

He moved to Paris, where he spent two years at La Tour d'Argent, a famous restaurant that claims to be more than 400 years old, at the age of 17. Ripert followed Jol Robuchon as a cook de jones and was soon promoted to Assistant Chef de Partie. Ripert returned to Jamin in 1985 to complete his military service, after which he returned as Chef Poissonier.

Ripert left France in 1989 and was recruited as a sous chef in the Watergate Hotel's Jean Louis Palladin restaurant. Ripert came from New York in 1991 and spent a short time as David Bouley's souschef before Maguy and Gilbert Le Coze recruited him as chef for Le Bernardin. After Gilbert Le Coze died unexpectedly of a heart attack, Ripert became Le Bernardin's executive chef. Ripert received a four-star rating from The New York Times in 1995, and he became a part-owner in 1996. Le Bernardin of Ripert was one of four New York City restaurants to be named one of the top three Michelin stars for excellence in cuisine in the Michelin Guide NYC 2006. Le Bernardin has been inducted four times by The New York Times, making it the city's only restaurant to keep its opulent reputation for the long time and without losing a celebrity in ten years. The Temple of Seafood is often referred to in Le Bernardin.

Ripert is the Vice Chairman of City Harvest, a group of New York's top chefs and restaurateurs, who are assisting New York's neediest by raising funds and increasing the quality and quantity of food donations to New York's hungry. In addition, Ripert has partnered with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company to open Blue in Grand Cayman.

Media career

Ripert has appeared on numerous television shows, including guest judge and assistant chef roles on Bravo TV's Top Chef's second, third, and fifth seasons. Ripert had intended to serve as a permanent judge on season 8, but he was forced to resign after his employee Jen Caroll was chosen as a contestant for the second time. Anthony Bourdain, Ripert, was a good friend of Anthony Bourdain and appeared in numerous episodes of A Cook's Tour. Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown & Anthony Bourdain: Unknown. Avec Eric, Ripert's first TV show, premiered on PBS stations in September 2009 and lasted two seasons, earning two Daytime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Culinary Program (2011) and Outstanding Achievement in Main Title and Graphic Design (2010). Avec Eric's return to the Cooking Channel in February 2015, it's now available on iTunes and Netflix. On his website, Ripert has introduced "Get Toasted," a short online cooking video that focuses on basic and quick meals that can be made and cooked in minutes with a toaster oven. He uses a Cuisinart brick-oven-based toaster oven in the series.

In 2010, he appeared on HBO's Treme (season 1 episode 5), alongside David Chang, Wylie Dufresne, and Tom Colicchio. In multiple episodes, he appeared in his cameo role in Season 2 and beyond.
