Ellen Greene (born February 22, 1951) is an American singer and actress.

Greene has had a long and varied career as a singer, particularly in cabaret, as an actor and singer in a number of stage productions, particularly musical theatre, as well as being featured in several films, including Little Shop of Horrors and a television series.

Vivian Charles appeared on ABC's Pushing Daisies from 2007 to 2009.

Personal life

Greene was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother was a guidance counselor, and her father, a dentist, was a dentist. Greene is Jewish. She attended Westbury, New York, at W. Tresper Clarke High School. She spent summers at Cejwin Camps in Port Jervis, New York, where she appeared in musical theatre productions, including Tzeitel in a 1966 version of Fiddler on the Roof. Martin P. Robinson, a puppeteer, had a tumultuous relationship with her. Tibor Hardik was her first marriage. She married Christian Klikovits on September 25, 2003; they have since divorced.

Career

Greene began his career as a nightclub performer in clubs such as The Brothers and Sisters, Continental Baths, Grand Finale, and Reno Sweeney's. Rex Reed, George Bell, and John S. Wilson, among other critics, gave her rave reviews. She befriended late Peter Allen around this time. Rachael Rosenbloom (And Don't You Forget It) was the lead in the unsuccessful Broadway show Rachael Lily Rosenbloom (And Don't You Ever Forget It), which had 7 previews before officially opening in 1973 but later closed. She appeared in Joseph Papp's production of In the Boom Boom Room at the Off-Broadway Public Theatre in November and December 1974. Paul Mazursky, who was at the time filming Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976), was attracted her attention due to her reviews. Sarah was played in the role of the actress in her first starring role in a film.

Greene continued her appearance in The Three Penny Opera (1976) at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center, where she was nominated for a 1977 Tony Award, Featured Actress In A Musical.

Greene began a close working relationship with the WPA Theatre, where she worked with Howard Ashman and Alan Menken in addition to several other productions with the New York Shakespeare Festival and many other companies. Their close, long-lasting friendship culminated in the role for which she is perhaps most well-known, that of the hapless Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (1982), which she reprised in the film version opposite Rick Moranis, with whom she appeared in several productions.

Greene has worked extensively in theater, including the role of Suzanne/The Little Rose in The Little Prince and the Aviator (1981).

She has appeared in films including I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can (1982), Léon, Talk Radio (1987), and Pump Up the Volume (1990).

Susan is a woman who has appeared on television in several shows, including Miami Vice, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Cybill, Law & Order, Suddenly Susan, The X-Files, and Heroes. In 1983, she was the voice of Creeping Ivy in the animated television series The Magic of Herself the Elf.

In His Eyes, Greene's 2004 album, in which she was accompanied by her husband and musical director Christian Klikovits, was published. Vivian Charles appeared on the television show Pushing Daisies (2007) and in the animated Out of Jimmy's Head, among other things, was also featured. In the Don Bluth film Rock-a-Doodle (1991), Greene was the voice of the Priscilla Presley type of character Goldie.

Greene appeared in Miss Adelaide in a concert version of the musical Guys and Dolls, which culminated in a three-day presence at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. Scott Bakula as Nathan Detroit, Brian Stokes Mitchell as Sky Masterson, and Jessica Biel as Sarah Brown were among her co-stars. Primrose DeVille appeared in five episodes on the soap opera The Young and the Restless in 2011.

Greene performed in the musical Betwixt!
