Elizabeth Estensen (born 10 August 1949 in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham) is an English actress best known for her appearances in the popular television dramas The Liver Birds and Emmerdale.

Early and personal life
Estensen was born on August 10, 1949, and she had a Norwegian grandfather, from whom she inherited her surname. She grew up in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham. Her mother was a primary school teacher, and her father was a merchant seamn and solicitor's clerk. Estensen was considering becoming a speech therapist, but instead, he registered for a Drama and English teaching course at Manchester Polytechnic. Estensen has been married to husband Philip Allen since May 1983, and the two have a son named James Otto Allen.
Career
She moved to Liverpool and joined the Everyman repertory company following her graduation from Manchester Polytechnic. When appearing in a production of John, Paul, George, Ringo, and Bert, actress Nerys Hughes, who was looking for a replacement for Polly James in her sitcom, The Liver Birds, discovered her. In 1975, Estensen was first seen on television as Carol Boswell, her debut television role. Estensen made appearances in films and series, including T-Bag and Far from the Madding Crowd, after The Liver Birds ended in 1979. Pam Middleton appeared in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street from 1996 to 1998. Diane Sugden, a series regular on ITV soap opera Emmerdale, was cast as series regular Diane Sugden, a role she has played since 1999. In 2007, she received a joint award at the British Soap Awards for Spectacular Scene of the Year, which culminated in the demise of a house in which her character was playing. Estensen announced in September 2021 that she had shot her final scenes as Diane in Emmerdale. On the 29th of October, her last episode was broadcast on television.
