Early life
Eldar Gasimov, the great-grandson of Azerbaijan actor and People's Artist Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan, and People's Artist of Azerbaijan, and the grandson of People's Artist of Azerbaijan actress Firangiz Sharifova. Gasimov began performing when he was young and has appeared in many concerts in Azerbaijan and Russia. He received formal music instruction from 2001 to 2005 and learned to play the piano.
Eldar Gasimov graduated from Baku Slavic University with a double major in international relations and regional geography. He has been a graduate student of international relations at the same university since 2010. Eldar Gasimov speaks Russian and German fluently, and he's also proficient in English.
Career
Milli Seçim Turu 2011, the Azerbaijan national selection, was taken in by Gasimov. Gasmov's first appearance in Heat 6 was ranked second, behind champion Ilgara Ibrahimova with 12 points, with both qualifying to the semi-finals. Gasimov advanced from the semi-finals alongside four other artists to the final on February 11, 2011, where he and Nigar Jamal won the right to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany. They performed under the pseudonym Ell & Nikki's song "Running Scared," written by Stefan rn and Sandra Bjurman of Sweden and Iain Farquharson from the United Kingdom, which gained the competition with 221 points.
After winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 Gasimov and Jamal, we were able to travel to a number of countries and perform their winning entry. 15,000 postage stamps were issued in Azerbaijan for the denomination of 1 Azerbaijani manat. Eldar and Nigar's victory at the 2011 election were the product of postage stamps in Azerbaijan. Eldar Gasimov was one of five musicians from Azerbaijan selected by the jury in the Danish national selection of the 2012 Eurovision champion.
