El-p Life

Jaime Meline (born March 2, 1975), better known by the stage name El-P, is an American singer, rapper, guitarist, singer, and record executive. El-P has been a key driving force in alternative hip hop for more than two decades, including Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, and Cage, among others. El-P is the founder, producer, and chief executive officer (CEO) of Definitive Jux.

He is also a member of The Weathermen and Art Collective Cardboard City.

Run the Jewels, (2013), Run the Jewels 2 (2014), and Run the Jewels 3 (2016) were three of Run the Jewels' former collaborator Killer Mike's debut in 2013.

Early life

El-P was born Jaime Meline in Brooklyn, 1975, the son of Nan Dillon and jazz pianist Harry Keyes (born Harry Meline). He is of Cajun, Ireland, and Lithuanian-Jewish descent. Although his mother was Catholic and his father was raised Jewish, they did not preach either faith to him, and he later joked that he "got none of it except a circumcision at birth."

El-P's parents divorced when he was seven years old, and he later wrote the song "Last Good Sleep" about his mother being assaulted by his inebriated stepfather in the next room and not knowing what had happened until the next day. Despite his mother's retaliation in the beating by splitting up with his stepfather, alerting him to police, and changing their home's locks, El-P had recurring nightmares about the incident and nearly shopped for his ex-stepfather through the New York subway, and once tried to find a stranger he mistook for his ex-stepfather.

El-P was suspended from two high schools for a variety of issues, including his refusal to wear his baseball cap backwards, but he later received his GED. At the Center for the Media Arts in Manhattan, he attended musical engineering school. He enrolled at Hunter College after graduating, but sadly, the majority of his courses did not align with the career he desired.

Personal life

Emily Panic, a comedian and singer, met in 2010 in October 2018; they married in October 2018. She is twelve years old. Panic appears on Killer Mike's 2012 album R.A.P. El-P's music was also included in the film version.

El-p Career

Career

El-P was first involved in the hip hop scene in New York City at an early age when he recruited Len as the DJ for his 17th birthday party. In 1992, the two became close and started Company Flow. In 1994, they unveiled "Juvenile Technique," their first vinyl album. Bigg Jus joined the band in 1996, and the trio's debut EP, Funcrusher, was released in 1996. Company Flow waited until it would get a deal on its own terms following the EP's success. Funcrusher Plus, the band's debut full-length album, was eventually signed to Rawkus Records and unveiled in 1997.

Company Flow left Rawkus after an instrumental album titled Little Johnny From the Hospitul: Breaks & Instrumentals Vol. 1 (1999), also on Rawkus. El-P's later decided to start Definitive Jux (known as Def Jux and more specifically as Definitive Juxtapositions), and because of critically acclaimed albums such as Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein (produced by El-P) and Aesop Rock's Labour Days, the brand quickly rose to fame.

Company Flow died amicably in 2001 and El-P's debut solo album Fantastic Damage followed him the following year, to widespread critical applause. El-P collaborated with the Blue Series Continuum in 2004 to produce a jazz-fusion album titled High Water, which received praise from both hip hop and jazz critics as well as more mainstream critics outside of both genres. Collecting the Kid, an odds-and-ends collection containing works from High Water and Bomb the System, as well as many songs of unknown provenance, was released in 2005. I'll Sleep When You're Dead, El-P's second proper studio album, was released on March 20, 2007. It generally received very positive reviews and became El-P's most commercially lucrative album as a solo artist to date, peaking at No. 1 on the charts. The United States has 78 people on the streets. Billboard 200. He identifies himself as an atheist in an interview about I'll Sleep When You're Dead.

El-P revealed in October 2009 that he was working on his third studio album, titled Cancer 4 Cure. El-P was also a member of Central Services, which consisted of El-P, Camu Tao, and Allysin Baker. The EP Forever Frozen in Television Time was released exclusively on the Def Jux digital download site in the fall of 2010. El-P has been signed to Fat Possum Records, which will debut Cancer 4 Cure in August 2011. El-P's "Drones Over BKLYN" became a single off the upcoming album later this month. El-P announced on his Facebook page on February 22, 2012, that Cancer 4 Cure was officially complete. On May 22, the album was later released in music stores.

Run the Jewels, El-P's most recent partnership with Atlanta-based rapper Killer Mike, was formed in 2013. In 2011, the two rappers were introduced to each other by Adult Swim executive Jason DeMarco. The meeting resulted in numerous collaborations, including Killer Mike on the track "Worther Killer" from Cancer 4 Cure, while El-P produced the complete version of Killer Mike's sixth album R.A.P. Music is a form of music. At R.A.P., a sense of humor is attained. A joint tour of Music and Cancer 4 Cure was announced within weeks of each other, and a joint tour was planned. Run the Jewels was born as a result of the tour's success. On June 26, 2013, the pair unveiled their self-titled debut album. On October 28, 2014, Run the Jewels 2 was launched. Run the Jewels 3 was announced on December 24, 2016, three weeks before the former launch date of January 13, 2017. On June 3, 2020, the fourth album RTJ4 was released. All of their albums have been released for free.

El-P has contributed productions and guest rhymes to albums by Aesop Rock, Evil Nine, DJ Krush, Murs, Cage, Mr. Lif, Prefuse 73, Mike Laddd, The High and Mighty, Aceyalone, Techno Animal, and Das Racist. He collaborated with Alec Empire on the first Handsome Boy Modeling School album and with Cage and Chino Moreno on the second. He and DJ Shadow were selected to work on Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha's solo album (which never appeared). Among other things, he has remixed Beans (of Anti-Pop Consortium), Beck, Blackalicious, Head Automatica, Hot Hot Heat, Dizzee Rascal, Syd Matters, Nine Inch Nails, Push Button Objects, Lorde, and Yasushilde. The soundtrack for the graffiti film Bomb the System was also provided by El-P.

El-P was the principal composer for the 2005 film Bomb the System; he was one of the candidates to earn a trailer for 2017's Blade Runner 2049, but his score was "rejected or ignored." Capone's 2020 biopic Capone scored the score.
