Egil Kapstad Life

Egil Kapstad (born in 1940) was a Norwegian jazz pianist, composer, and arranger.

He composed for more than 50 productions for theater and also created for film and television drama.

Kapstad arranged classical works for orchestra, choir, string quartet, and smaller ensembles, as well as a chief executive of the Ny Musikk Company.

He appeared in television for NRK as a host.

Trio Egil Kapstad's Trio appeared in the Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix of 1965 as a small orchestra.

Egil Kapstad Career

Career

Kapstad was born in Oslo, Norway. At the Musikkonservatoriet i Kristiansand, he taught jazz history and improvisation and appeared as a pianist on more than 60 albums. Kapstad worked with jazz musicians including Karin Krog, Chet Baker, Red Mitchell, Bjrn Johansen, Bjarne Nerem, Jon Larsen, and Magni Wentzel, as well as poet Jan Erik Vold.

Kapstad has received numerous accolades and awards. In 1977, he was named with the award of the year (Epilog), in 1984, Gammleng-prisen in the class jazz, and he was given the Egil Kapstad Trio at the 1989 award of Spellemannprisen.

Kapstad became a government scholar in 2003. In Kristiansand, he died in July 2017.
