Edward Lawrence "Eddy" Kitsis (born February 4, 1971) is an American television writer and producer best known for his roles with writer Adam Horowitz on ABC's hit ABC drama series Lost and Once Upon a Time.

Early life and education

Kitsis was born to a Jewish American family, the son of Minneapolis' Arlene and Tybe Kitsis. He earned his B.A. in 1993. In radio, television, and film from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he met Adam Horowitz in his "Introduction to Film" class.

Personal life

In May 2002, it was revealed that he was engaged to Jennifer Susman, a 1999 television and film graduate from the University of Texas. They married in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 29, 2003.

Career

Kitsis travelled from Horowitz to Los Angeles after school, according to the author. They began as assistants and messengers before landing a job as script writers for Fantasy Island's revival. After 13 episodes, it was cancelled, but writers went on to write for both Felicity and Popular before joining Lost.

Kitsis and Horowitz joined the Lost crew midway through the first season as a writer and producer team in 2005. In fall 2005, they were promoted to supervising producers for their second season. At the February 2006 ceremony, Kitsis, Horowitz, and the writing team received the Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award for Best Dramatic Series for their contributions to the first and second seasons. They were promoted to co-executive producers for the third season of the 2006-2007 television season. For the fourth season, they starred as co-executive producers and writers. At the February 2009 ceremony, Kitsis and Horowitz were nominated for the Best Dramatic Series for their role on Lost's fourth season. They were promoted to executive producers for the fifth season in 2009. At the February 2010 ceremony, the writing staff was recognized for the Best Dramatic Series for their fifth season. For the sixth and final season in 2010, Kitsis and Horowitz served as executive producers and regular writers. Both Kitsis and Horowitz signed an overall contract with ABC Studios in 2007 during Lost's tenure.

Kitsis also wrote Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the film Tron, with his partner Horowitz, and wrote the book for Universal Pictures' upcoming project "Ouija Board."

The creators of the fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time, which premiered on ABC on October 23, 2011. Kitsis and Horowitz are the creators of the fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time. The show focuses on a small world populated by fairytale characters that are unaware of their true identity. The two came up with a seven-year plan before joining the Lost team, but they decided to wait until it was finished before focusing on this particular initiative. He co-created Once Upon a Time spin-off in Wonderland, as well as partner Adam Horowitz, Zack Estrin, and Jane Espenson, a Consultant. In a post-cursed Wonderland, Alice, searching for her true love, a genie named Cyrus, who is being hidden from her by the Red Queen and Aladdin villain Jafar. Along Josh Gad, Kitsis and Horowitz will co-create and co-write a Beauty and the Beast miniseries for Disney+. Following the cancellation of their planned Disney+ series, Muppets Live Another Day, a prequel to Disney's 2017 remake of the 1991 film of the same name was born. Kitsis and Horowitz began working on a new TV show focusing on characters from fairy tales and Disney's Epic, which was revealed in December 2019. In January 2021, the pilot was picked up by ABC, who then moved to ABC.
