Edward Lee House II (born May 14, 1978) is an American retired professional basketball player.

House, a guard known for his three-point shooting, appeared on nine NBA teams over the course of 11 seasons.

He was a member of the Boston Celtics team that captured the NBA championship in 2008.

Early life

Eddie was born in Berkeley, California, and was raised mainly in Union City, California, where he attended James Logan High School. Since he was forbidden from playing on the Logan varsity team in his freshman year, House transferred to Hayward High School. House in Hayward received the All-Hayward Area Athletic League and All-Eastbay in both his junior and senior years, and he graduated in 1996. He wanted to play for University of California, Berkeley, but the school's coaches felt that the House was not yet ready for a major college basketball program, so he suggested that the House begin at a junior college.

Personal life

He is the son of Edward House and Deborah Buck, and he has two brothers, Diallo Buck and Mychal House. He married the sister of professional basketball player Mike Bibby during his rookie season with Miami in 2000-01. Jaelen, the couple's three sons, and twins Kaden and Kalek, who are currently play basketball for University of New Mexico, are among their three children. The two people are now divorced. Both Eddie House and Mike Bibby appeared for the Sacramento Kings in 2004–05 and the Miami Heat in 2010–11. Danuel House, the current Philadelphia 76ers forward, is also a cousin of the former Philadelphia 76ers forward Danuel House. Jaelen's son attended College Basketball at his alma mater for one year before transferring to The University of New Mexico.

College career

On a full-ride scholarship, the House attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He has been the all-time scoring leader at ASU with 2,044 points in his career, and he is the only player to score more than 2,000 points. He, Ike Diool, and James Harden were the only three Sun Devils to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year, and he was the fifth Sun Devil to be selected twice to be on the All-Conference team.

He is also the career record holder at Arizona State for field goals and robbery, and he also set the school's single-season scoring average of 23.0 points per game from 1999-2000. He was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for a record-tying four times during the week (matched only by Ed O'Bannon, Chris Mills, Gary Payton, and Quincy Pondexter).

In a 111–108 double-overtime victory over the California Golden Bears on the road in his senior season, the House set a single-game Arizona State record of 61 points. It was also a memorable homecoming for him, as he had attended Hayward High School nearby. With 18 made free throws in 19 attempts, the House also set a record in the game. As he had 61 vs. Cal, 46 vs. Penn State, 42 vs. UCLA, and 40 vs. UCLA, House was the first Pac-10 player to play 40-point games in a single season. He also played eight 30-point games during the same season, posting ASU records in points (736) and points per game (23.0). In addition to the team's assist (111) and robbery (74), the team's 74 steals are ranked second on ASU's single-season list. In four seasons at Arizona State since it joined the Pac-10, he is one of only three players to reach double figures in double figures.

During his time at Arizona State, House went 0-8 against the Arizona Wildcats. During the 2014 Fiesta Bowl, House gave Boise State Football Team a motivational speech on the benefits of defeating the Arizona Wildcats, Boise State's adversary. Incidentally, the Broncos won 38-30.

NBA career

House was known for his three-point shooting in the NBA.

In the second round (47th overall) of the 2000 NBA draft, he was selected by the Miami Heat. He appeared in Miami for three seasons before moving to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency. House House was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats after just one year in Los Angeles. He appeared for the Charlotte, Milwaukee Bucks, and Sacramento Kings during the 2004-05 NBA season. The Phoenix Suns had signed the following season, and they had reached the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Dallas Mavericks.

He agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the New Jersey Nets on August 17, 2006.

He agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Boston Celtics on August 9, 2007. He was dubbed the Big Three by an all-star cast member, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen. House served as a back guard for either Ray Allen or Rajon Rondo in the 2008 NBA Finals. He was instrumental in the team's comeback win in Game 4, knocking down two crucial three-pointers late in the game. On July 23, 2008, he re-signed with the Celtics on a two-year, $5.6 million contract, with the second year as player's choice. He set a new Celtics team record of highest 3-point percentage in a season by shooting 44.4% in 2008–09.

Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens were traded to the New York Knicks for Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry on February 18, 2010.

The guard came to an agreement with the Miami Heat for two years in July 2010, according to a House spokesperson.

House beat the Toronto Raptors by four points on April 13, 2011, beating his career NBA record by four points. In six games, the Heat advanced to the NBA Finals in 2011 and were beaten by the Dallas Mavericks. Game 6 of the Finals series concluded up being the House's last NBA game ever. Game 695 - 105, with the Heat losing Game 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and a 1 steal.

On June 30, 2011, the House used an option clause in his deal, agreeing to a one-year, $1.4 million extension with the Heat. He was ruled out of the Heat on Christmas Eve if he wasn't playing a game for them during the 2011-2012 season.
