Dries Van Noten Career

Career

Before launching a menswear collection in 1986, Van Noten freelanced for a number of local designers. As part of The Antwerp Six collective, he unveiled his first menswear collection in London that year. Barneys New York had a small order made. Louis, Boston, was one of the first to bring Dries to the United States, amassing his collection and selling it in Boston. He has four collections a year (both for summer and winter).

"One of fashion's most cerebral designers" in 2005, The New York Times referred to him as "one of fashion's most cerebral designers." His style is described as "eccentric" and died out of favor during the early 1990s' minimalistic style, only to see a revival in the mid-2000s, culminating in Van Noten's winning of the International Award of Fashion Designers of America in 2008.

Cate Blanchett, a child of Van Noten, was dressed for the Academy Awards in 2008 and has continued to dress her for subsequent red carpet functions since then. Queen Mathilde of Belgium and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal are among the numerous clients who have benefited from the service. One of his items, identified eponymously as the Dries van Noten suit, was included in the third episode of television show Killing Eve in 2018.

Van Noten said in a recent interview, "I'm a little naive, but I don't like the prospect of showing things that don't sell in a shop." His work is said to be characterized by the use of prints, colors, original fabrics, and layering. He does not promote.

Van Noten's brand has shops throughout the world. "Het Modepaleis" was the first thing to open in Antwerp in 1989. Store openings in Hong Kong and Tokyo were followed by several others. A store in Paris was opened in early 2007, decorated with antiques owned by Van Noten and his partner Patrick Vangheluwe, which was followed by a Singapore store ten months later. The brand is reported to be carried in some 400 fashion stores around the world.

Despite the fact that the brand is a private business, not much is known about its financial affairs, although it claims to have annual revenues of 30 million euros. Puig, a family-owned Spanish fragrance and fashion company, bought it in 2018; van Noten himself remains a minority owner.

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands jokes he is 'too Dutch' after arriving at the Louvre 10 minutes early for a Paris Olympics reception

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 26, 2024
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands proved to be slightly too punctual last night when attending a dinner at the Louvre for the Pairs Olympics. He joined an array of royals at the glittering reception, including Queen Mary and King Frederik of Denmark, Princess Anne and Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain. But the Dutch monarch reportedly arrived early and had to wait ten minutes on the red carpet whilst making small talk ahead of his hosts welcoming him officially to the event. A clip surfaced online showing the awkward moment, with the King soon realising his mistake. Looking at his watch, he joked: 'Oh I'm a little early... I'm too Dutch.' It was a reference to how the people of the Netherlands are known to be very punctual and organised.

British and European royals have stepped out in force in Paris this evening, ahead of the opening of the Olympics 2024. Princess Anne (right) led the European royals touching down in the French capital, with Queen Letizia of Spain (left image), Queen Mary of Denmark (centre) and the Belgium royals all putting on glamorous appearances. The Australian-born Queen's outing comes after a resurfaced video saw Mary hit by a mobility scooter while visiting Greenland last month (pictured inset).

Queen Letizia of Spain wore an embroidered Dries Van Noten black suit as she and her husband King Felipe opened a building in Barcelona today. The royal, 51, opted for a double breasted jacket with padded shoulders and cigarette trousers, which she paired with Carolina Herrerea slingbacks that popped with a red heart. The Spanish royal, who is renowned for her style, went for oversized gold earrings, also from Carolina Herrerea, and a Carolina Herrerea bag, as she approached the Puig Company's second tower.
