Drew Shirley Career

Career

Shirley studied at a California Baptist University studying a Music minor. He also started and directed various school bands and shows during his time in school. He was only a senior in high school when he first started playing guitar. After graduating from college, he began working with YFC as the Riverside area Campus Life director, assassinating with local high schools.

Shirley performed in the band All Together Separate in the late 1990s, as well as fellow CBU classmates Dex Alexander (singer), Ben Rayls (drummer), and Charles Rumahlewang (bass). The band toured around the country, but it was cut short after breaking up in 2002.

Shortly after releasing The Beautiful Letdown in 2003, he began touring with Switchfoot. On May 4, 2005, he became a member of the band. Nothing Is Sound (2005), Oh! He has released eight LP albums with the band: Nothing Is Sound (2005), Oh! Gravity. Hello Hurricane (2009), Grammy-winning Hello Hurricane (2009), Vice Verses (2011), Fading West (2013), Where the Sun Shines Through (2016), "Native Tongue" (2019), and "Interrobang" (2021).

Shirley performed and appeared on several band projects before leaving All Together Separate and his transition to Switchfoot. He still produces and appears on various musical projects.

Shirley had left the band on February 21, 2022, according to the band's secretary. "Friends, there is no straightforward way to say this," the band wrote in an e-mail. Drew and the band have chosen different paths in the middle of years of broadcasting, and they will no longer be playing together. He joined us shortly after the album's debut and we've shared an incredible journey with countless highs and lows mixed. We love Drew and are so grateful for the time and memories we've shared. It has certainly been a difficult season for us, with challenges that have ultimately brought us in new directions. We've always believed that our friendships are more important than the band. And it's still true: Our love for each other is so much bigger than rock and roll. We're curious to see what Drew's next chapter holds for him, as well as Switchfoot. We are beyond grateful for your friendship, each other, and the journey we all shared together during this challenging period. Hope is more popular now than ever before, and it deserves an anthem."
