Early life
Jones, the youngest of four brothers, was born in Indianapolis and attended Bishop Chatard High School. He graduated from Ball State University, where he delayed his experience as a mime and transformed the school mascot "Charlie Cardinal."

Jones referred to himself as a "dyed-in-the-wool Christian from the Midwest," to the extent that he was initially hesitant about his participation in Hellboy due to the titular character's demonic appearance.
Laurie Pontoni, Jones' college sweetheart, married Jones in 1984. In 1985, the couple moved to Los Angeles to continue his acting career.
Career
"Mac Tonight," Jones' career as a 1980s advertisement character, began his career in the television and film industry. "You'd be surprised how many times that comes into play in commercials," he said. They'll want someone to hold a box of Tide jokes or something. As Jones' name became more prominent in the industry, he was eventually able to include a clause in his contracts guaranteeing that no English dialogue of his characters would be dubbed. Jones appeared in the French-language film Gainsbourg (Vie héro), written and directed by French comic book author Joann Sfar and produced by Universal Europe. Jones performed La Gueule ("The Mug"), the grotesque fantasy muse and frankler who teases, inspires, and accompanies Serge Gainsbourg throughout his life. He was supplied with prosthetics and effects from Academy Award-winning Spanish FX firm DDT Efectos Especiales, with whom he had already worked on Pan's Labyrinth; the FX technicians requested that Jones be given the role as the Mug creature due to his ability to perform (without complaining) with heavy prosthetics and elaborate special effects; Jones spoke phonetically this time in Pan's Labyrinth; his voice was rebranded by Éric Elmosnino, who also played Gainsbourg. Director Joann Sfar adored Jones's speech patterns so much that he begged Elmosnino to imitate it when he did the creature's lines. On January 20, 2010, the film was released in France.
Jones signed a book deal with Medallion Press in January 2010 to model Mime Very Own Book, co-authored by Adam Mock and Scott Allen Perry, and photographed by Eric Curtis. In December 2011, the book was supposed to be published.
In the web series Universal Dead, Jones plays Dr. Henry Vataber. Universal Dead will be turned into a film in late June of 2010.
