Early life

Alma Inez Williams, born in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 22, 1899, her family soon moved to Los Angeles as she was a young child and completed her education there.

Personal life

Albert Wylie Mather, a businessman from Devore, married businessman Albert Wylie Mather on December 18, 1925, and filed for divorce in 1933. She died on September 10, 1976, in Woodland Hills, California, at the age of 77.

Career

Devore sang at a Los Angeles cafe before starting to work in film.

Devore spent one year in a musical comedy company. At Universal Pictures, she went to Lyons and Moran comedies. She was "discovered" by director and producer Al Christie, but she was soon offered leads and changed from one-reelers to two-reelers, making her a star.

Devore trained in comedic roles, including in Know Thy Wife (1918), directed by Christie. In 1923, Devore was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars. She made a name for herself in the comedic two-reel Christie Comedies, which were published by Educational.

Christie loaned her out to play the female lead opposite Charles Ray in 45 Minutes from Broadway (1920), just a few years after her career started. Take the Heir, her last film before retiring in 1930.
