In 2015, he made his competitive debut for the club against Scottish club Celtic in a Europa League match.

He was a member of the Europa League Team of the Week in November last year, a regular feature in the 2016–17 season.

The club advanced to the final but lost to Manchester United.

Van de Beek made himself a fixture in Ajax's starting eleven during the 2017-18 season.

He scored his first hat-trick for the club and finished the season with 13 goals.

Van de Beek was one of the 30 man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or during the 2018/19 season, where Ajax reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Van de Beek has represented the Netherlands on international stage at the youth level.

He made his senior international debut against Romania on November 14, 2017.

Donny van de Beek Career

Club career

Van de Beek's career began as a youth with the local Veensche Boys' academy, where his father, André, has played. He joined the Ajax youth academy for three years in August 2014 and was named to the D-team. He climbed through the academy and appeared in the A1 team Supercup triumph over the Feyenoord A1 team. He signed a contract extension on January 27, 2015, extending his stay at the club until mid-2018.

In the Eerste Divisie against Sparta Rotterdam in January 2015, Van de Beek made his debut for Jong Ajax (the Ajax reserve team) against Sparta Rotterdam (the Ajax reserve team). Frank de Boer, a two-month manager, has been promoted to the senior team for a league match against ADO Den Haag as a result of injury. However, he was an ineffective substitute in that match. He received the AFC Ajax Talent of the Future award at the end of the 2014–15 season.

Van de Beek was called to the senior team of UEFA Europa League against Scottish club Celtic in November 2015. He made his European debut in the match, which Ajax won 2–1. "I've taken my duels well," he said on his debut. It was of course difficult because the game went back and forth constantly. But I think I did fine." Van de Beek's first team appearance came in a 2–0 league victory over PEC Zwolle three days later. He scored his first goal for Ajax in a 1-1 draw against Norwegian club Molde FK in the following month. Joona Toivio's left eyebrow bled while scoring the goal. He said he would not soon forget it while reflecting on the target. The goal also earned him the club's Goal of the Month award.

In January 2016, Voetbal International announced that Van de Beek had impressed him and that he would continue to play with the first team "until further notice." He was officially promoted to the first squad on February 16th following John Heitinga and Yaya Sanogo's departures. According to media reports in March, Bayern Munich, a German club, was interested in signing him. He cemented his place with the first team by the end of the 2015-2016 season and was also playing for the Ajax under-19 team in the UEFA Youth League. Barcelona was considering a solution to guarantee his services, according to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo.

Van de Beek was included in the Ajax squad for the UEFA Champions League qualification match against Greek club PAOK at the start of the 2016-17 season for a few reasons: Bosz was impressed by the team's results during pre-season friendlies in Austria, Riechedly Bazoer was injured, and Nemanja Gudelj was suspended. He made his Champions League debut against PAOK on July 26, 2009, kicking off the 1–1 draw. By Voetbal International, he and Abdelhak Nouri were the only players on average to receive more than 7.0 percent when playing for the reserves during the season. He was named in the Europa League Team of the Week in November for his match against Panathinaikos. He was a member of the Nouri and Lasse Schöne midfield trio. Van de Beek was recalled in the 70th minute of the Europa League final against Manchester United, with Ajax losing the match 2–0.

The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad wrote that he had successfully filled the void left by Davy Klaassen's departure, who had recently moved to Everton in the Netherlands. Tottenham Hotspur, an English club, scouted him in the Netherlands in October. In both legs of the Champions League qualifier against French club Nice, he scored a goal. In the 36th minute of the 1–1 draw, he scored an equalizer, exploiting an error made by opposition goalkeeper Yoan Cardinale. In the first half of the 2–2 draw, he found the net in the first half. In an 8–0 league victory over NAC Breda on November 18, Van de Beek scored a hat-trick. Jol Veltman, the Ajax captain, praised the effort as "extra nice." In comparison to adding six assists, he appeared 34 times in the league and scored 11 times. In July 2018, he turned down an Italian club Roma's bid, saying that "Ajax is the right place for his growth."

Van de Beek played a pivotal role for Ajax in the 2018–19 season, starting almost every match in all competitions, as the team won their first league title in five years and qualified for the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League's semi-finals. Van de Beek scored against Juventus on April 16th in the second leg of the quarter-finals, helping his team beat the Italian champion by a score of 3–2 on aggregate. In the first leg of the semi-finals, he scored against Tottenham Hotspur, resulting in a 1–0 away win for Ajax. Despite losing the tie on away goals after a 2–3 loss at home, Ajax did not qualify to the final, losing the tie on away goals. Van de Beek scored against Valencia in a 3–0 away win and Chelsea in a 4–4 draw, but Ajax lost 1–0 at home to Valencia, effectively ending the season as a whole.

Ajax and English Premier League club Manchester United have reached an agreement on the transfer of Van de Beek on August 30. Van de Beek's three-day contract was completed three days later, with the signing of a five-year deal worth more than £5 million in add-ons. Van de Beek wore the number 34 jersey in honor of former Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who died during a friendly in 2017 and was put into a self-induced coma. Van de Beek appeared little during his first season at Manchester United, starting just four Premier League matches. He made his debut in a friendly against Aston Villa on September 12th and made his professional debut as a replacement in the club's opening Premier League match against Crystal Palace on September 19th; he scored United's only goal in a 3–1 loss.

He was not debuting in the Premier League in his second year, but he did get a few starts in the Champions League and the EFL Cup. Van de Beek was subbed in for the third time in twelve Premier League matches, scoring his second and final Premier League goal for the club in what turned out to be manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last match, a 4–1 loss at Watford on November 20, 2021. Matters didn't improve in ten Premier League games under new boss Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick, only 9 minutes were played.

Van de Beek was loaned out to Everton, the Premier League, until the 2022-22 season. He appeared in five of the first six games but he was forced to return to the club due to persistent thigh injuries, and he only played in the last Premier League match of the season, a 5–1 loss to Arsenal; Van de Beek scored the Everton goal.

International career

Van de Beek played youth international football for the Netherlands at under-17, under-19, under-20, and under-21 levels. Van de Beek made his under-17 team debut against Germany on September 11, 2013. After defeating Scotland in the semi-finals, he was part of the squad that made it to the final of the 2014 European Under-17 Championship. However, the team came in runners-up to England.

Van de Beek made his international debut against Romania in a friendly match on November 14th. In both games in the 2019 UEFA Nations League Finals as a replacement, the Netherlands beat England 3-1, but lost to Portugal 1–0. In a 1–1 home draw against Italy in the UEFA Nations League, he scored his first international goal on October 14, 2020.

Van De Beek was forced to withdraw from the Netherlands' squad for the Euro 2020 campaign on June 8, just days before the tournament began. Van de Beek's injury had been revealed by the Dutch FA, and as a result, he had trained away from the main squad. He could not recover in time and would withdraw completely from the Netherlands' team, as it was revealed.
