Donny Schatz (born August 10, 1977) is an American sprint car racing driver.

He now works full time in the World of Outlaws, powering the No. 5 in the No.. Tony Stewart Racing's 15 Fords.

He is a ten-time champion of the World of Outlaws.

Personal life

He was a 1995 graduate of Minot High School. He now lives in Fargo, North Dakota. Savanna, his step-daughter, has a name. Schatz is a licensed pilot and works with his parents in their family truck stop operation in Fargo and Minot. He is an avid outdoorsman who likes hunting and snowmobilizing.

Racing career

Danny Christ Schatz, a sprint car racer in the 1970s, and Diane Korgel are sons. He began racing at 11 years old in go karts and then went to 358 sprint cars at Red River Valley Speedway as a teenager. As an 18-year-old, Schatz transitioned to 410 sprints and The World of Outlaws series three seasons later.

Schatz was named Best Rookie of the Year in 1997 and his first A-feature win came in 1998.

Schatz has won ten championships from 2006–2009, 2012, and 2014–2018. He was the second driver to win the points championship in a row, with the other being Steve Kinser. Since 2006, he has had a top-two finish, with three second places to go along with the ten championships.

Schatz has 300 WoO wins as of June 19th, 2021, his third most all-time behind Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.

The Knoxville Nationals have won eleven times (2006–09, 2011–2022); the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, 2006, 2005, 2011, and 2020 National Open at William's Grove Speedway; and the inaugural World of Outlaws World Finals at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2008. Since being crowned from the 21st starting position in 2013, he also set the record for the fastest in the field.

He moved to Tony Stewart Racing in 2008 and continues to drive for the team today.

Schatz has competed in Australia throughout his career. In 2002, he won the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Victoria, and was runner up in the 1999/2000 and 2001/02 World Series Sprintcars series.

Schatz will make his NASCAR and stock car racing debut in Knoxville Raceway on June 2, 2021. David Gilliland Racing's 17th birthday is on display.
