Dom Kennedy Life

Dominic Ross Hunn (born August 22, 1984), better known by his stage name Dom Kennedy, is an American rapper from Leimert Park, Los Angeles, California.

Since 2008, Kennedy has released 5 independent mixtapes, most notably his 2010 "critically acclaimed mixtape" From the Westside with Love.

On June 28, 2011, his first commercial studio album From the Westside with Love II was released on iTunes.

Despite being his iTunes debut, FTWSWL2 debuted "top ten on the Hip Hop/Rap albums chart during its debut week" and was Kennedy's first album to be sold with The OpM Company, Kennedy's self-owned record label.

Complex's "My Type of Party" was ranked #43 in the magazine's Best 50 Songs of 2012 list.

Early life

Dom Kennedy was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 22, 1984. Kennedy describes his growing up as "normal." Following his parents' divorce, Kennedy and his mother moved to Leimert Park with his mother. To remain safe and out of danger, Kennedy played baseball to get out of the inner city. From the age of five to the age of 16, he played basketball every day. Kennedy enrolled in Santa Monica College, a two-year junior college in California, majoring in business administration, after graduating from Santa Monica high school. Dom gave his explanation about why he enrolled college and what his plan B would be in an interview with Dr. Josh Hamilton in October 2012.

"While I was there, I concentrated mainly on company administration rather than really thinking about music, but not so much so about life." You know, like hell if I wasn't rapping or doing something with music, that was right where I imagined myself in the world. I always wished to be an entrepreneur, but many people have aspirations, but I suspect I might as well learn about company structure or even find out who's employment."

Dom Kennedy Career

Music career

Kennedy's debut mixtape album 25th Hour was released in 2008, immediately generating a lot of buzz throughout Los Angeles' south side. The song "Watermelon Sundae" was particularly popular on local radio stations and performed live throughout the region, bringing even more attention to Kennedy's musical aspirations. Madison, Kennedy's cousin at Loyola Marymount University, was a film student at Loyola Marymount University, igniting the importance of visuals in Kennedy's later projects.

Kennedy's 25th Hour debut in 2009; Best After Bobby (the term referring to Robert F. Kennedy's death) and Future Street/Drug Sounds. The Best After Bobby mixtape, Kennedy and the Los Angeles Leakers collaborated with West Coast heavy hitter DJ Sour Milk, generating instant buzz in underground circles around the country. Within the first hours of releasing the mixtape, Kennedy amassed over 10,000 downloads, cementing his place among Los Angeles' top rappers.

However, with the release of From the Westside With Love in 2010, Kennedy became a big hit in Los Angeles' underground hip hop scene. With the success of From the Westside With Love, Kennedy became a major celebrity on the independent circuit, including a show in Djibouti, Africa. At this time, Kennedy began releasing a lot of visual material, including "1997," "Locals Only," and "The 4 Heartbeats."

Kennedy's 5th studio mixtape The Original Dom Kennedy, a tape designed to capture Kennedy's individuality and sound as an artist, was released in early 2011. Kennedy characterized the initiative as a tribute to himself in the rap game as well as the city he proudly represents: MTV News reporter James Lacsina.

In the mixtape against major hip hop DJ and producer Funkmaster Flex, Kennedy took a personal interest. "Shit I heard Flex say that Pac ain't shit/ and I hope when you see him slap your mouth," Kennedy says of the late California rapper Tupac Shakur's disparaging remarks about him on his album "The Homies." The show was hosted by cable entertainment network Black Entertainment Television. Both his live appearance and the one of East Coast rapper J. Cole's were broadcast online by major hip hop music publication The Source (magazine). In Djibouti, Africa, Kennedy performed his first show outside of the United States, as well as in 2011.

Following the launch of From the Westside With Love II, Kennedy performed at The Key Club in West Hollywood, California, with fellow West Coast rappers Overdoz, Epic Twelve, and Black Cobain. The show on "7.1.11" was sold out, sparking a second show the following week, branded as the "7.1.1" show.

Kennedy toured Europe and the United States in 2012 for his Yellow Album World Tour. In October, the tour began in London and wound up in San Francisco in December.

Interscope Records attempted to sign Dom Kennedy in early 2013, but the singer refused to stay anonymous. On October 15, 2013, his second studio album Get Home Safely was released under his The Other People's Money Company record company. Guests included Skeme, Krondon, TeeFLii, Ty Dolla Sign, and Nipsey Hussle on the album. Get Home Safely debuted at number 29 in its first week, in the United States, selling more than 10,000 copies.

Dom Kennedy's third studio album, By Dom Kennedy, was released on June 2, 2015. The album debuted at number 23 on the Billboard 200, with 9,000 copies sold in the first week. Los Angeles Is Not For Sale, Vol. 9, was Dom Kennedy's fourth studio album, Los Angeles Is Not For Sale. 1.
