Devoleena Bhattacharjee (born 22 August 1985) is an Indian television actress and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer best known for playing Gopi Modi in the Star Plus drama series Saathiya.
She appeared in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant in 2019.
Early life
Bhattacharjee was born in Upper Assam on August 22, 1985 to a Bengali Hindu family. She and her mother and her younger brother live in Gurugram.
She received her education from Godhula Brown Memorial English High School in Sivasagar, Assam, as well as her graduate studies from the National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Delhi, India.
Career
Bhattacharjee, a qualified Bharatnatyam dancer, began working as a jewellery designer in Gili India Ltd. in Mumbai and was first noticed when auditioning for Dance India Dance 2 was accepted. Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto, a Canadian artist, made her acting debut in 2011.
Bhattacharjee replaced Giaa Manek as the female lead in Star Plus's Saath Nibhaya, which turned out to be her breakthrough. She considered quitting the show due to frequent time changes in 2014 and 2016, but maintained the character until reaching 5 years in June 2017. She underwent spinal surgery for an accident that occurred on the show's set in 2013. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya's contract came to an end on July 23rd.
In the 13th season of the reality television show Bigg Boss, Bhattacharjee appeared as a celebrity contestant for the 13th week in September 2019. However, two months later in November 2019, she left the show citing medical problems as the reason for her departure.
Bhattacharjee's role in the sequel to Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, called Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2, first broadcasting on August 20, 2020, has been confirmed in August. She appeared in the first 31 episodes with the last episode telecasted on November 23, 2020.
