Derek Wolfe Career

College career

Wolfe spent four years (2008–2011) at Cincinnati. During his tenure, he had 162 total tackles, 37 tackles for injury, and 19.5 sacks.

As a senior, Wolfe was named Co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

Wolfe was the first Beaver Local High School graduate to be drafted in the school's history, and he was the first Mahoning Valley resident to be selected in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Professional career

In the second round (36th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Wolfe. Wolfe was the fourth defensive tackle drafted in 2012.

The Denver Broncos agreed to a four-year, $5.20 million deal, which includes a three-year, $5.20 million guarantee and a signing bonus of $2.22 million.

Wolfe came out with 3 tackles and a sack for a loss of 9 yards in his first NFL game of the regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wolfe finished his rookie season with 40 tackles, six sacks, and two passes defensed. His six firings were third most on the team, behind Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil.

Wolfe had a tough sophomore season. Wolfe sustained a spinal cord injury while playing against the Seattle Seahawks in a preseason game and was carted out of the game. He lost 20 pounds in a row, as well as two bouts of food poisoning, and was thus not as efficient on the field. Wolfe suffered a seizure on the bus ride to the airport for their Kansas City Chiefs match against Mike Brown on November 29, which was a seizure. (The seizure was related to a spinal cord injury during the season.) Despite hopes that he would return to action, he was eventually stationed on Injured Reserve. The Broncos lost to the Seattle Seahawks after Wolfe in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The 2015 season was the best of Wolfe's career. Wolfe returned to establish himself as one of the best run stuffers in the game after he was suspended for four games for a PED offense, resulting in his being named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after the Broncos defense largely neutralized the undefeated Green Bay Packers offense.

Wolfe signed a four-year contract with the Broncos worth $36.7 million on January 15, 2016.

Wolfe was a member of the Broncos team that won Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016. The Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24–10. In the Super Bowl, he had five tackles and 0.5 sacks.

Wolfe made a career high in tackles in 2016, defeating four in passes with five.

For the first time in Wolfe's career, the Broncos made the playoffs for the first time in the Broncos' career.

Wolfe was put on injured reserve on December 5, 2017 after suffering a neck injury.

Since suffering a dislocated elbow in Week 13, Wolfe was placed on injured reserve on December 2, 2019.

Wolfe also signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens on March 31, 2020.

Wolfe was fired as a Raven on Gardner Minshew in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and recovered a fumble that was thrown by Minshew during the 40–14 victory.

On March 17, 2021, Wolfe agreed to a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Ravens.

Wolfe sustained a hip injury during practice on October 2, 2021, and was put on injured reserve. Wolfe's name was announced on October 26, 2021, as a patient reserve returning to action. Wolfe was expected to be out for the remainder of the season from November 15, 2021, head coach John Harbaugh said.

Wolfe and the Ravens came to an understanding on an injury resulting in his release from the team on June 14, 2022.

Wolfe left the following quote during the national anthem: this is the world's biggest country, and if you don't believe we are the world's biggest country and you live here?

Wolfe resigned from professional football on July 29, 2022, after committing to stand as a member of the Denver Broncos for one day.

Wolfe appeared on 104.3 The Fan in Denver on October 3, 2022, as a sports-talk radio host on the station's marquee show, "The Drive."
