Derek Mears (born April 29, 1972) is an American actor and stuntman.
He appeared in horror and science-fiction books often, but it was in the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th that he came to fame for portraying Jason Voorhees.
The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007), Predators (2010), Pirates of the Caribbean (2012), Hansel & Gretel: The Hills Have Eyes (2012), and Alita: Battle Angel (2019).

Life and career
Mears was born in Bakersfield, California. At ComedySportz in Bakersfield, he performed improv comedy. In 1990, he graduated from Highland High School in Bakersfield, Northern California. Mears had a serious case of auto-immune disease alopecia early in life, causing him to shed nearly all of his body hair.
Mears has worked as both a stuntman and an actor. He appeared in minor roles in The Tick, ER, Alias, Nash Bridges, Men in Black II, The Shield, CSI: Miami, NY. He is one of the tallest actors to have played Jason, alongside Ken Kirzinger, who stands at a similar height to Mears. He was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for his role in Voorhees, but Heath Ledger was voted Joker in The Dark Knight, but he was disqualified as the Joker.
Mears did a lot of study on child development in order to flesh out the role of Camp Crystal Lake's legendary resident serial killer: Byron.
