Dazmon Jaroid Cameron (born January 15, 1997) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Detroit Tigers' organization.

He attended Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia, and was selected by the Houston Astros in the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft.

The Astros traded Cameron to the Tigers in 2017.

His father, Mike Cameron, played in MLB.

Early life and amateur career

Cameron is the oldest of four children born to JaBreka and Mike Cameron. Mike played for eight franchises over the past seventeen seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). When he was 13 years old, his dad began to teach him how to play baseball.

Cameron attended Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia, where he competed for the school's baseball team. He had a.392 batting average as a freshman. In 106 at bats, he showed his promise in his sophomore year, ending the season with a.434 batting average, seven home runs, and 28 runs batted in (RBIs). He committed to enrolling at Florida State University on a college baseball scholarship to play for the Florida State Seminoles.

Cameron was a member of the USA Baseball's 18-and-under national team in the summer of 2014, competing against other countries from the Pan American Baseball Confederation. He has also appeared in the 2013 and 2014 Under Armour All-America Baseball Games. Cameron, a senior in 2015, had a.455 average with eight home runs and 32 RBIs, and was named Georgia's Gatorade Player of the Year.

Professional career

Cameron was considered a potential first overall draft pick in the 2015 MLB draft, but he was disqualified from the competitive lottery pick round due to rumors of high contract demands.

The Houston Astros ranked 37th overall, with the team having the most diverse draft budget pool, they were believed to have the highest chance to sign Cameron. Cameron has signed with the Astros for a reported $4 million signing bonus. Cameron signed with the Rookie League GCL Astros after signing. After batting only.222 with six RBIs in 21 games, he was reassigned to the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League, where he flourished, batting.272 with 11 RBIs and a.721 OPS in 30 games.

Cameron, a member of the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Class A Midwest League, began the 2016 season. He had trouble with Quad Cities, batting.143 in 21 games, and was recalled to the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League. Cameron, who batted.278, broke his finger after being struck by a pitch in July, snapping his season. For the 2017 season, Cameron returned to Quad Cities.

Cameron, Franklin Pérez, and Jake Rogers were traded by the Astros to the Detroit Tigers for Justin Verlander on August 31, 2017. He was assigned to the Midwest Whitecaps of Detroit. Cameron batted.271 in 123 games between Quad Cities and West Michigan, with 14 home runs and 74 RBIs as a result of 32 stolen bases. Cameron was a member of the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League in 2018, and he batted.259 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 58 games played. Cameron was promoted to the Erie SeaWolves of the Class AA Eastern League by the Tigers on June 18. The Tigers announced him on August 17 in 53 games after batting.285 with five home runs and 35 RBIs in 53 games. He hit.211 with six RBIs in 15 games for Toledo. Cameron played for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League during the regular season. Cameron returned to Toledo for the 2019 season, winning.214/.377/.707 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI.

Following the 2019 season, Cameron was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster. The Tigers promoted him to the major leagues on September 9, 2020, marking his first appearance in the major leagues on the day. Cameron hit his first big league run, an RBI single off of Chicago White Sox starter Lucas Giolito on September 11. Cameron batted.193 with no home runs and 3 RBIs in 17 games for the 2020 Detroit Tigers.

Cameron made his Detroit Tigers debut on June 10, and the following night, he scored his first major league home run, beating Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks in the bottom of the 9th inning, tying the game and extending it to extra innings. Cameron took a base against Yadier Molina on June 23, making him and his father Mike the first father-son team to steal bases against Molina. The Tigers placed Cameron on the Injured List (IL) on June 10, 2022.
