David Peter S. Witts (born 30 June 1991) is a British actor and model best known for his portrayal of Joey Branning in the long-running British television soap opera EastEnders, in which he appeared from 2012 to 2013.
Early life
Witts attended Southend High School for Boys, where he first discovered his passion for acting. He studied with the National Youth Music Theatre and the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain for a number of years. Witts appeared in a number of theatre productions, including Wild Boyz, The Wizard of Oz, and Snow White during 2011 and 2012.
Career
Witts had been cast in EastEnders, as Joseph Branning's son, Joey Branning, according to Digital Spy in May 2012. Witts expressed delight at his return to the series, saying, "I am delighted to be joining EastEnders after being a fan for so many years." The Branning family may not have arrived at a better time, especially after winning the British Soap Awards. "Joey is a major addition to the Brannings, and after an explosive entrance onto the Square, he's sure to break a few hearts as he campaigns to bring Derek down."
In October 2013, it was announced that he had decided to leave EastEnders. On December 26, 2013, his last scenes were broadcast.
In an early 2014 version of Hairspray at the Curve in Leicester, Witts appeared as Link Larkin.
He appeared in the pantomime Aladdin at the New Theatre in Hull over the Christmas/New Year season 2014/15.
Witts would appear in the forthcoming American television series Recovery Road as Craig in March 2015, and the series will premiere on Freeform on January 25th, 2016. The show had been cancelled in May 2016.
Witts would make his West End debut in the hit film Wicked in May 2018, replacing Bradley Jaden as Fiyero from 23 July 2018. Witts left Wicked on July 20, 2019 and Alistair Brammer replaced him.
Witts appeared in a series of the BBC daytime soap Doctors in March 2019.
Witts appeared in the pantomime Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, during the 2019/20 Christmas/New Year season.
