He grew up in Northampton, Massachusetts, and graduated from Northampton High School. Pakman studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Massachusetts, where he concentrated in economics and communications. He received a bachelor's degree from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Pakman is the host of The David Pakman Show, a television, radio, and internet political show. Pakman began hosting a show on local radio in 2005 as a "hobby," and by 2011, the show had appeared on 100 stations and outlets, including Direc TV and DISH Network, on YouTube, LBRY, and podcasts. In August 2005, the program premiered on WXOJ-LP ("Valley Free Radio"), located in Northampton, Massachusetts, as Midweek Politics with David Pakman.
