In September 2019, Shelley Puchalsky, a PhD student from Delaware, was jogging with her dog on a dirt trail when she tripped over her pet and fell face-first onto gravel. With blood running down her face, the 40-year-old drove herself to the nearest hospital and had to get more than 40 stitches. Little did she know, however, the sutures holding her skin together would result in botched plastic surgery, an incurable sepsis infection and a gaping three-inch-wide hole in her skull.

Post Office bosses plotted to raid the pensions of wrongly accused sub-postmasters to make up discrepancies in accounts, it was revealed yesterday. Minutes from a 2004 board meeting, produced at the public inquiry into the Horizon scandal, reveal ex-chief operating officer David Miller (pictured) was tasked with targeting 'the pensions of fraudsters' to ensure the company was reimbursed. Quizzed by inquiry counsel Emma Price, Mr Miller denied being the plot's architect, insisting it was 'proposed by somebody else'. Mr Miller also denied comparing Fujitsu, the Japanese technology giant behind the flawed Horizon IT system, to a 'man who had just shoved 15 inches of bayonet up my posterior'.

Sheriff Eric Higgins unlocked the cell doors of a block in the Pulaski County jail in Arkansas for a radical experiment to see if they could govern themselves. The six-week trial was documented by a TV crew and hidden cameras was edited into Unlocked: A Jail Experiment new screening on Netflix. However, the series enraged blindsided local officials who only learned about the show, and the experiment, when the Netflix trailer was released. Inmates made three gallons of illegal 'hooch' and bashed a man for cheating at cards when they were given the run of the jail.
