David Jeremy Leon (born 24 July 1980) is an English actor, writer, and producer.
He is best known for his role in photographer Rankin's debut Lives of the Saints as Othello and Guy Ritchie's film RocknRolla.
He co-starred with Brenda Blethyn in the ITV detective series Vera from 2011 to 2014.
Leon has produced several short films including Father, Man and Boy, and Orthodox.
In 2015, he directed Orthodox, his first feature-length film.
Early life and education
Leon was born in Newcastle, England, where his mother, Ann J., was born on July 24th. Anthony N. Leon, a secretary and his father, worked in a power plant, was a teacher and a technician. He is Jewish on his father's side and describes himself as half-Jewish. He played for Blackburn Rovers F.C. for a brief period of time. He is a graduate of the National Youth Theatre. He was educated at Dame Allan's School.
Career
Leon appeared on CITV in 2002 as a host. In 2004, he dropped out of drama school to film Alexander Stone in Morocco. He appeared in 12 epidodes of Cutting It from 2004 to 2005, portraying Troy Gillespie. Leon's acting debuts included the film These Foolish Things, which also starred Lauren Bacall, Anjelica Huston, Terence Stampe, and Zo Tapper, and in 2007, he appeared Billy the Kid in BBC's mini series Billy the Kid. In Mark Haddon's play, Polar Bears, he appeared in the Donmar Warehouse in 2010.
He appeared as DS Joe Ashworth in the ITV detective series Vera from 2011 to 2014 alongside Brenda Blethyn.
Father, Leon wrote and co-directed the short film, which premiered in 2009 with Marcus McSweeney. The short film Man and Boy, directed by the same team last year, was accepted in film festivals, including the Tribeca.
Several international festivals, including the 58th BFI London Film Festival, have accepted Orthodox, Leon's third short film as writer/director. In 2015, Orthodox's full version was released.
