David Lee Murphy Career

Musical career

"Just Once," Murphy's first recording for MCA Nashville, was included on the soundtrack to the 1994 film 8 Seconds. "Just Once" made it to the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in 1994, peaking at #36. Murphy began working on his debut album Out with a Bang, which was released in early 1995. The album featured three hit singles, including "Party Crowd," the album's most-played country song of 1995, as well as "Dust on the Bottle," a top single. The RIAA named Out with a Bang as the best-selling album for a new male country act in 1995 and was rated gold by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIAA).

Gettin' Out the Good Stuff was Murphy's second album, which was released in 1996. In "Every Time I Get Around You" and "The Road You Leave Behind," the group created back-to-back Top Five singles. "Every Time I Get Around You" debuted on RPM Country Tracks in Canada and was voted Canada's top song for 1996.

We Can't All Be Angels, Murphy's third and final album for MCA, was released in 1997. Murphy said in a 1997 interview that he had intended for this album to be experimental in nature, adding that he "wanted to create just a different tone," he said. I just wanted a new sounding track." "All Lit Up in Love" and "Just Don't Wait Around" were two singles from "We Can't All Be Angels, peaking at #25 and #37 on the country chart, with "All Lit Up in Love" and "Just Don't Wait Around "Til She's Leavin."

Murphy had shifted his attention to songwriting by the 2000s. People Like Us, Aaron Tippin's 2000 album People Like Us, was one of his first cuts in the 2000s; this song was a Top 20 for Tippin. Trick Pony released another one of Murphy's compositions a year later, on their 2002 album On a Mission. In addition to that, Murphy co-wrote album cuts for several other musicians, including Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, and Hank Williams, Jr.

In 2004, Koch Entertainment signed Murphy to his second recording deal. Tryin' to Get There was his fourth studio album released this year. The album, which was co-written by Waylon Jennings prior to his death in 2002, saw the Top Five hit "Loco" debuting at #5 in 2004. "Inspiration," the only other single from Tryin' to Get There, was a hit single from singer and guitarist Lee Roy Parnell's collaboration with singer and guitarist Lee Roy Parnell, which peaked at #48.

Murphy continued to perform as a singer after the close of the Koch Nashville record label, earning his first outsider with Kenny Chesney's 2006 album "Life in Fast Forward." Gary Allan's "A Feeling Like That" (co-written by Ira Dean, later a member of Trick Pony), Van Zant's "Goes Down Easy") and Blake Shelton's "The More I Drink" were two more chart singles co-written by Murphy in 2007. Keith Anderson's "Somebody Needs a Hug" and the Eli Young Band's "Always the Love Songs" were two more Murphy-written songs, and Jason Aldean's "Big Green Tractor" topped the country charts in September 2009. Murphy wrote with Jim Collins in 2008. Josh Thompson co-authored "Way Out Here," another Murphy co-write.

"Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" by Thompson Square, Kenny Chesney's "Live a Little"), "Pirate Flag," "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About," "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About," and "Live a Little," "Anywhere with You," Blackberry Smoke's "Anywhere With You" and "Get Down the Road" are two other Murphy co-W

Murphy signed to Reviver Records in 2017 and revealed that No Zip Code would be released. Kenny Chesney and Buddy Cannon, Chesney's long-serving producer, produce the album.
