David James Gandy (born 19 February 1980) is a British model who began his modelling career after winning a televised model-search competition.
For many years, Gandy was the lead male model for Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana, who featured him in their campaigns and fashion shows. Gandy's robust build caused some menswear fashion designers to rewrite requirements in a market dominated by skinny models.

Modelling career
Gandy was born in Billerica, Essex, England. In his youth, Gandy aspired to be a veterinarian, but his grades were not strong enough to meet the required requirements for that field. So, while researching multimedia computations, he went to work with Auto Express, bringing the most recent Porsches and Jaguars to the track for testing. When researching marketing at the University of Gloucestershire, Gandy's flatmate introduced him (without his knowledge) into a modelling competition on ITV's This Morning hosted by Richard and Judy in 2001. The 21-year-old Gandy won the competition, and the prize was a deal with Select Model Management in London. He dropped out of university a few modules shy of receiving his honors degree in order to pursue modelling full time next year.
Gandy modeled for a variety of businesses, including Shiatzy Chen, 7 for all Mankind, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Gant U.S.A., Hugo Boss, Russell & Bromley, Carolina Herrera, Massimo Dutti, and others during his early years, including Shayne Jones, Morgan & Spencer, Matthew Perry, & Co. He became the face of Dolce & Gabbana in 2006, appearing in their clothing campaigns and fashion shows annually, as well as male models including Noah Mills, Tony Ward, and Adam Senn.
