Early life and career

Ames appeared in plays at college before pursuing a degree in drama. Rudi Geinrich, the actor, appeared in the play The Temperamentals at Greenwich Theatre. So So Gay described his role in the play "touching." Dominic Copeland was cast as Dominic Copeland in 2013 as a guest actor, but Holby City's developers decided to reintroduce the role on a permanent basis in 2014. Dominic Copeland was not the first Holby City character he auditioned for.

For the first time since the show was cancelled earlier this year, four Holby City actors enjoyed a pre-Christmas reunion. For the first time in almost three years, David Ames, Rob Ostlere, who starred Arthur, Camilla Arfwedson, who played Zosia, and Ellie Fanyinka, who played Morven, all met up for the first time in almost three years. David stayed with the show until its conclusion in March this year, while Rob left in 2016, Ellie in 2017, and Camilla in 2019.
