Professional wrestling career

Richards began training in 2004 with Tony Kozina before making his debut in Pro Wrestling War, based in Washington, against a wrestler named Mr. Gregor. Sexy is a form of sexy. Richards spent time in Atlanta with Paul Orndorff while still working at a Duracell factory an hour and a half away in Cleveland, Tennessee.
He began wrestling in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) in California in April 2005; he debuted in an eight-man tag match for the first All Star Weekend. Richards established himself as a villain during a three-way match with Human Tornado and Puma, revealing him as T. J. Perkins, sparking a feud between the two teams. Richards continued to participate in tag team matches with his new partner, Super Dragon; the pair went on to win the PWG World Tag Team Championship from El Generico and Tornado, defeating a number of teams before losing the championship to Chris Bosh and Scott Lost in May of the following year. Richards won the championship by beating Ronin, Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, and then Cima, a visitor to Japan's Dragon Gate tournament.
Strong defeated B-Boy and his old friend, Super Dragon, for the second time, only to lose the belts to their former champions the following night. Richards played in a number of singles matches before being reunited with Dragons Kevin Steen and El Generico in the fall of 2007. Richards continued to play the championship until January 2008, when Richards skipped the Pearl Habra exhibition, resulting in the team being barred from the championship and resulting in Richards' suspension for 60 days. He returned to work 60 days later, part of the Dynamite Dumvirate Tag Team Championship Tournament, once more collaborating with Super Dragon.
