Dave Navarro Career

Professional career

"I was never young," Jimi Hendrix said. Yngwie Malmsteen was also fascinated for a brief period of time. Navarro also said he learned a lot from Robert Smith of the Cure and Daniel Ash of Bauhaus. "I have always loved all the different guitarists that have appeared in Siouxsie and the Banshees," the guitarist explained. "The greatest innovators for me, are still Hendrix and [Jimmy] Page," He says. Van Halen's debut album was another reason he discovered guitar playing.

After being recommended to vocalist Perry Farrell by drummer Stephen Perkins, a childhood friend of Navarro's, Navarro joined Jane's Addiction in 1986. The band became well-known and became well-known in the alternative-rock music scene. Jane's Addiction (1987), Nothing's Shocking (1988) and Ritual del Habitual (1990) are among Jane's Addiction's five albums that have been out for more than five years. However, personal ties led to their breakup in 1991. Farrell's Lollapalooza festival was held as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction.

Navarro was the first pick of lead singer Axl Roses' original rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin in August 1991; despite four attempts to have him arrive and play with Slash, he never turned up. However, he went on to appear on the End of Days soundtrack as the 1999 Guns N' Roses song "Oh My God" was released. Navarro formed Deconstruction in 1993 with Jane's Addiction's Eric Avery on vocals and bass and Michael Murphy on drums. In 1994, the band released one self-titled album. Rick Rubin was involved in the design, but Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes appeared as a guest. Since Jane's Addiction, they did not tour due to Avery's exhaustion.

In September 1993, Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Woodstock 94 was his first big-scale appearance with the band. One Hot Minute, Navarro's only album on which he performed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, was released in 1995. "Love Rollercoaster," the Ohio Players' song "Love Rollercoaster" was later recorded and released as a single on Beavis and Butthead Do America's album, which was later released as a single. The band also contributed "I Found Out" by John Lennon to the Working Class Hero album, as well as the One Hot Minute outtake "Melancholy Mechanics" to the Twister soundtrack.

Navarro played guitar for Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" on one of the 1990s' most popular albums, Jagged Little Pill, in 1995.

Despite mixed reviews, One Hot Minute has sold over eight million copies around the world and has released three hit singles. Navarro went on tour with Jane's Addiction for 1997 Relapse tour with Flea on bass. Navarro was banned in 1998 after two years of touring on and off with Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as his subsequent heroin relapse.

During this period, Navarro remixed Janet Jackson's "What Does She Do" for her Janet Remixed album.

Trust No One (Capitol Records), his solo debut, appeared on his debut in the summer 2001. Navarro, guitarist Dave Kushner, bassist Miiko Watanabe, and drummer Angel Roché, Jr. were among the band members assembled for the accompanying US tour. Jane's Addiction reformed in 2002 with bass guitarist Chris Chaney and began to work on a new album. The band collaborated with veteran rock producer Bob Ezrin, resulting in the album Strays and the Lollapalooza 2003 tour in support of the album. Michael Jackson appeared at the Apollo Theater in 2002, and Navarro played guitar on his hit song "Black or White." Navarro also appeared in Mariah Carey's "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" music video during this period.

At that time, Navarro was first employed with Camp Freddy. Camp Freddy performed at the reception in 2003; he and his fiancée, Carmen Electra, decided to film their wedding video for an MTV show titled Til Death Do Us Part. In the fall of 2005, the show was a hit and was released on DVD. Don't Try This at Home, Navarro's book, was published by ReganBooks on October 5, 2004 and quickly became a Los Angeles Times bestseller.

In 2004, Navarro appeared in two tournaments on Celebrity Poker Showdown. He won his qualifying game and appeared in the championship round in the third tournament of the series. He appeared only in a qualifying round in the fourth series.

Brooke Burke co-hosted two seasons of Mark Burnett's television series The Rock Star: INXS and Rock Star: Supernova. In August 2006, Navarro and his band, the Panic Channel, released their album One. In January/February 2007, they toured with Rock Star Supernova (the band was derived from the series). Navarro had his own internet radio station during this period. Dave Navarro's SPREAD TV, a television talk show, was quickly expanded his imagination and became available on iTunes. Avant-garde artists, illustratorry, and the human condition were all highlighted in the exhibition. Videos from the series are now available on Navarro's YouTube channel.

In 2007, Navarro was partnered with Teravision to produce his first adult film, Broken starring Sasha Grey, in the first of a planned collection of celebrity-directed adult movies. At the 2008 AVN Awards, this effort received the "Best High End All-Sex Release." Navarro appeared on Z Rock's Season 1 and Season 2 with Brooklyn-based band ZO2 on IFC. In 2008, he produced new riffs for the version of "Black Cat" on Janet Jackson's Rock Witchu Tour, appearing on screens during the performance.

Jane's Addiction reunited with all of the original members in 2008. The tumultuous band's reunion influenced NME magazine to select Jane's Addiction as the recipient of their "Godlike Genius Award for Services to Music." Trent Reznor called the band shortly after it appeared together for the first time in 17 years at the NME Award ceremony in Los Angeles. Reznor began working in Jane's Addiction's studio; on the NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler, they recorded and released two songs ("Chip Away" and "Whores" respectively. Both songs were previously released on their self-titled 1987 live album. This time spent in the studio contributed to the pairing of Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction for a world tour in 2009. Fans of the tour called the NIN/JA tour.

Navarro toured southern California as part of the Billy Corgan-led band Spirits in the Sky in August 2009.

"Ink Not Mink" was a naked posed for PETA's anti-fur protest in 2010. In 2013, he resigned from the group's anti-testing drive.

In a Citibank commercial, Navarro appeared as the "Director" of a Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp in 2011.

Navarro appeared on the album "Girls/Fast Cars" This Modern Glitch by indie rock band the Wombats is a film that was filmed in the United States.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Navarro was not inducted into the band for five years and performing on one album. When the news of the induction was made, Navarro expressed admiration for the band but later said he had no plans to attend the service, which was held in April 2012. Anthony Kiedis wondered why Navarro was not included in the induction, but he replied by saying "He's in this other band, which may in fact be inducted itself one day," says Jane's Addiction. I believe this is the band closest to his heart, and it reflects his contribution to the world in terms of music. So perhaps it makes more sense for him to be arrested one day as a member of Jane's Addiction." It is the Hall of Fame's decision on which members are inducted, according to the Hall of Fame and the Chili Peppers' lawyer. They ultimately selected original members, current members, and those that have appeared on multiple albums. Jack Sherman, a former guitarist for the Phoenix, disagreed and thought the band was treating him unfairly, and that they did have a say in who was drafted. During his induction address, drummer Chad Smith became the first band member to mention both Navarro and Sherman (along with other former members).

Navarro appeared on four episodes of Sons of Anarchy on FX in 2012 and appeared as a guest on an episode of Talking Dead. He appeared in Law and Order: SVU's February 2013 as a sound engineer. In January 2012, Navarro became the host and judge on the Paramount show Ink Master.

At a memorial exhibition for Andrew Burkle, the son of billionaire Ronald Burkle who died in January 2020, Navarro performed with Jane's Addiction on February 8, 2020. Navarro met with his Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmates, who also performed, for the first time in 23 years. John Frusciante, the guitarist who replaced Navarro in the band in 1998, appeared briefly with Jane's Addiction, marking the first time the two Chili Peppers guitarists shared a stage together.

Navarro and Billy Morrison's third annual Above Ground benefit concert in Los Angeles took place on December 20, 2021. They were joined onstage by Anthony Kiedis for a rendition of Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side." This was the first appearance of Kiedis and Navarro since the Red Hot Chili Peppers were fired from Navarro.

Navarro was unable to participate in a joint tour with Jane's Addiction and the Smashing Pumpkins in 2022 due to long COVID; his spot was filled by Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen for the duration of the tour.
