Darrelle Revis Life

Darrelle Shavar Revis (born July 14, 1985) is a former American football cornerback who spent the bulk of his career with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL).

In the 2007 NFL Draft, he played college football for the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the New York Jets.

He has played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, and the New England Patriots.

He won Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks with the New England Patriots. Revis branded his place on the field as "Revis Island," a term he used to describe his ability to shut down the opposing number one receiver.

Revis is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks to ever play in the NFL.

Personal life

Revis is Sean Gilbert's nephew. Revis has a daughter and a son. Darrelle unveiled the Nike Zoom Revis, his own shoe, on December 2012, which is available in a variety of colors. Revis was a mentor of Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller. Revis is Jordan Whitehead, the cousin of New York Jets safety Jordan Whitehead.

Revis was accused of attacking two men in Pittsburgh around 2:40 a.m. on February 16, 2017. Revis was caught on a cell phone, causing Revis to snatch the phone and throw it out at the street. Revis was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, terroristic assaults, and conspiracy theories that stemmed that night. The following day, Revis converted himself into cops and was released on non-monetary bond. Since a friend of Revis testified that he was accountable for the two men's disappearance, all charges were dismissed on March 15.

Darrelle Revis Career

High school career

Revis attended Aliquippa High School in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He received awards for his work as a student, as a 2003 WPIAL Class AA Player of the Year, and the 2003 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fabulous 22" in honor of his high school achievements.

He led Aliquippa to a come-from-behind 32–27 victory over Northern Lehigh, including three touchdowns, a punt return, and the restoration of a blocked Northern Lehigh field goal attempt in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA State Championship football game. He also had a 39-yard pass, had a dinner, and had an intercept in the game.

Revis led Aliquippa to the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) basketball championships in junior and senior years, culminating in a 25.2 PPG average in senior season. He also had the most interceptions out of any cornerback in high school. Revis was on the Quips' WPIAL Class AA relay team, placing third in track & field.

College career

Revis grew up in Pittsburgh and spent time with the Pittsburgh Panthers football team. During his 2004 freshman campaign, he received first-team All-America recognition. Revis played in all 12 games and started 11 of them 12. Revis ranked fifth on the team with 49 tackles, tied for team lead with 12 broken-up passes, and second on the team with 14 blocked passes. Two interceptions were also intercepted by Revis. When the Panthers intercepted a late pass that set up the Panthers' game-winning drive, he was the most important of the two interceptions. Revis had a career-high seven tackles against the Boston College Eagles. With Pitt leading 17-20, the Boston College Eagles decided to go for it late in the fourth quarter after losing by 17–10. The ball came to a one-yard line, but Revis intercepted him, preventing him from receiving the score.

Revis' sophomore season in 2005 was another good year. Revis led first-team All-Big East to a halt. Revis led the Panthers to four interceptions and finished second on the team with 13 defended passes. With two recovered fumbles, Revis ranked second in the Big East. Revis had a 79-yard punt against the Cincinnati Bearcats, as well as a field goal against the Connecticut Huskies, which was returned for the score. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights also had an interception and totaled 119 punt return yards.

Revis' last year at Pitt, his 2006 junior campaign, was where he made his national debut. At the end of the season, he was a candidate for the Jim Thorpe Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Revis intercepted interceptions against the Virginia Cavaliers and Cincinnati, which were both rejected for touchdowns.

Revis made a spectacular, 73-yard punt return in the 2006 Backyard Brawl match against West Virginia, breaking several tackles and scoring a touchdown late in the second quarter before finally scoring a touchdown. Two Mountaineers were thrown out of him by Pitt wide receiver Derek Kinder. At the 2007 ESPY Awards, the performance was selected for "Best Play" and named the year's best College Football Play of the Year.

Professional career

Revis reported on January 10, 2007, that he would forego his senior years at Pittsburgh to join the 2007 NFL Draft. He was one of the top three cornerbacks available, as well as Leon Hall of Michigan and Aaron Ross of Texas, and was one of the top 30 players to be selected. He was given an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine, but he decided not to attend due to a tightened hamstring. At Pittsburgh's Pro Day, Revis impressed scouts with his 40-yard dash, a major worry scouts had prior to him completing the test. "Nobody went away dissatisfied," Teryl Austin, the Arizona Cardinals' defensive backs coach at the time, said. Len Pasquarelli, an ESPN analyst, had Revis as having "terrible coverage methods."

Terry Bradway of the New York Jets was impressed by Revis' workout but was concerned with the level of play Pittsburgh played, as Louisville's Mario Urrutia was the toughest receiver Revis ever faced during the season. Despite this worry, the firm was so impressed by his man and zone coverage methods, as well as his ability to play, that they decided to substitute him in the draft. Initially, New York blasted trading draft picks with the Houston Texans, who had the tenth overall pick.

Revis skipped the first 21 days of training camp while his agents negotiated a contract. Revis' mother was flown in from Pittsburgh at one point to help expedite the negotiations process. The Jets and Revis came to an agreement on August 15, 2007. According to ESPN writer John Clayton, the 47-page deal was worth about $36 million over five years.

Revis was expected to return immediately, citing his expertise on defense and special teams. Revis compared Revis' abilities to Ty Law, who was once described as a "shutdown" cornerback. Revis made his preseason debut against the New York Giants on August 25, 2007, just less than a week of practice. He had five tackles and one pass blocked against receiver Sinorice Moss on his debut, with one punt return for 13 yards. At the end of the preseason, Revis was named the Jets' first rookie cornerback, the first Jets' rookie cornerback since Ray Mickens in 1996.

Revis had 7 tackles and held Wes Welker to 6 catches for 61 yards in his first game against the New England Patriots. In a week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, he made his first interception of his career against them division-rivals. Revis will continue to improve throughout the season, with the Jets' solid starter and one of their top defensive players. Revis' rookie season ended with 87 total tackles, one blocked fumble, and three interceptions, despite being on the 16 games. During his rookie season, Braylon Edwards, Lee Evans, and Terrell Owens only defeated Revis for touchdowns three times.

The Jets opened the season with a match against the Miami Dolphins. With five seconds remaining in the game, Revis, the current starter, intercepted former Jet Chad Pennington's pass in the end zone, preserving the Jets' 20-14 victory. Revis limited Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss to two catches for 22 yards a week later. Revis' attention to detail and perfection of his game's flaws were lauded by Mangini. Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, both wide receivers for the Arizona Cardinals this week, were the Jets' wide receivers. Two Kurt Warner passes were intercepted, one of which he returned 32 yards for a touchdown, his first NFL appearance.

Despite his success alongside All-Pro safety Kerry Rhodes, the Jets' pass defense ranked 28th, prompting coach Eric Mangini to sign free agent All-Pro cornerback and former New York Jet Ty Law in November. Despite Revis' strong results, the Jets' pass defense continued to struggle and would finish 28th overall by the season's end. The Revis' side of the game was also untested, as teams instead selected rookie cornerback Dwight Lowery.

Revis was named to the 2009 Pro Bowl for his efforts. Revis intercepted a pass meant for Anquan Boldin with just one hand during the Pro Bowl.

Revis kicked off the 2009 season by versus some of football's best wide receivers. He helped keep Houston Texans Pro-bowler Andre Johnson to four receptions for 35 yards in Week 1. After intercepting 14 passes for 141 yards the week before, Revis then faced Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, restricting him to four receptions and 24 yards. Revis also had an interception against Brady, assisting the Jets' defense in being the first team to prevent the Patriots from scoring a touchdown since 2006. However, Revis held Moss to limited yards in Week 11, although he did pass up a touchdown to Moss. The only other blemish on Revis' season was his 53-yard touchdown reception against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, when the Jets 31–27 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football.

Rex Ryan, the former Jets head coach, said on several occasions that he thinks Revis is the "right" cornerback in the NFL, and that he also has the best cornerbacks he's worked with in all of his years of coaching defenses. He was ranked as the No. 1 by NFL Total Access, according to NFL Total Access. On a Best In The Biz list before the 2009 season began, there was a cornerback in the league on a Best In The Biz list. "Revis is going to be the best corner in the game for years," Deion Sanders said.

Revis spent the year winning a Pro Bowl spot and earning a lot of attention both within and outside the sport. In Week 17 (the NFL's last regular season week), he locked up Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco, blocking Ochocinco from having a single reception, partially because a victory does not guarantee Cincinnati to a playoff seed, and also because Ochocinco left the game with a fractured knee. The Jets won the game 37–0, their second shutout and third 'defensive' shutout. The win cleared the Jets for the postseason, and the two teams met in the first round six days later. Revis shut down Ochocinco once more during the Jets' 24-14 victory over the Bengals, limiting him to two catches for 28 yards and making an intercept.

Revis and the Jets defeated the AFC's No. 2 seed San Diego Chargers 17-14 in the second week of the playoffs. Revis was compelled to cover the majority of the Chargers' popular receivers, but San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers only threw the ball to a receiver covered by Revis three times throughout the entire game. Two of the three three children were turned away by Revis for a faulty pass, while the third was an interception. His interception was made as he reached the ground to catch a ball that was deflected off the Chargers' wide receiver Vincent Jackson's shoe. Revis' interception changed the game's momentum and was instrumental in the Jets' 17–14 victory. The Jets won their first game against the Indianapolis Colts in AFC Championship play, their first visit to the AFC Championship since 1998. The Jets lost 30–17 due to a lack of scoring in the second half (0 points) and poor secondary play, with the exception of Revis himself, who only allowed two receptions.

Revis lost in the Defensive Player of the Year awards to Charles Woodson, 28–14.

While waiting for a new deal, Revis skipped the majority of training camp and all four of the team's preseason games. In the fourth year of a six-year deal, he was expected to receive $1 million. On September 5, a four-year $32 million guaranteed deal was reached, and Revis subsequently reported to camp the next day, a week before the team's season opener.

Revis left the game early in Week 2 against the New England Patriots after being thrashed for a deep touchdown by Randy Moss, it was later revealed to be strained hamstring. Revis will be out for two weeks this season. Following the team's match against the Minnesota Vikings, Revis strained the hamstring. Revis was activated two hours before the game against the Denver Broncos on October 17, 2010. Following their win over Denver, the Jets went into a bye week, allowing Revis to restrain his hamstring. Revis has since declared himself to be 100 percent.

In a victory over the Colts in the 2011 AFC Wild Card Round, Revis held Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne to only one catch for a yard. In the divisional round, the Jets defeated the New England Patriots, but the Pittsburgh Steelers would not face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game. Revis finished the year with 32 tackles but there was no interceptor in 13 games.

On September 11, 2011, the Jets kicked off their 2011 season against the Dallas Cowboys. On the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the game was played at MetLife Stadium on Sunday Night Football. In the final minutes, the Jets were tied with the Cowboys 24–24 when Revis intercepted a Tony Romo pass meant for Dez Bryant to put the Jets in field goal range. The Jets defeated the Jets 27–24 after Nick Folk converted the game-winning field goal to give them the victory. In Week 6, the Jets had a 2–3 record against the Dolphins in what some considered a must win game. On October 17, 2011, Revis intercepted a pass meant for Brandon Marshall and ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown, tying the longest interception return in Jets history, first set by Aaron Glenn in 1996. Matt Moore intercepted another Matt Moore intercepted in the fourth quarter, extending the Jets' victory by a score of 24–6 later in the same game against the Miami Dolphins. The Jets were playing the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, October 23, 2011. The Jets were down 21-17 in the fourth quarter, while the Chargers had the ball in Jets territory when Darrelle Revis intercepted a pass intended for Vincent Jackson that was deflected right into Revis' hands. Mark Sanchez would pass a touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress, his third game of the season, later today. The Jets will triumph 27-21. The Jets were 8-5 going on a three-game winning streak and looking to make the playoffs for the third year in a row. However, the Jets will play in the playoffs for the next three weeks and miss the playoffs by 1 game, a record of 8-8. It came out that the Jets locker room was having issues early in the season. Revis was named to his fourth Pro Bowl and third All-Pro team at the end of the year with 52 tackles and four interceptions.

Revis hinted that he did not attend training camp in the hopes of reworking his deal. Despite the confusion surrounding his employment status, Revis attended training camp. On September 9, 2012, the Jets' season opener against the Buffalo Bills was played. On the ensuing drive, Revis intercepted a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass, which resulted in a Mark Sanchez touchdown. The Jets would go on to defeat the Bills 48–28. In comparison to the intercept, Revis was able to score five tackles in addition to the interception, but the game was called off in the fourth quarter after teammate Bart Scott mistakenly hit Revis in the head with his knee while Revis was still standing on the ground. Revis was diagnosed with a mild concussion and was ruled out of the Pittsburgh Steelers for Week 2. He returned to the Miami Dolphins the following week after a fumble, but he later left the game with an undisclosed knee injury. Revis sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and would be out for the remainder of the season, according to an MRI taken the following day. On October 12, 2012, he was put on injured reserve.

Revis was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on April 21, 2013.

Revis carried a private jet to Tampa, Florida, for an official physical. Revis was found healthy after being examined by team doctors, including head team orthotist John Zvijac and director of sports medicine Todd Toriscelli.

After reaching an agreement with Tampa Bay on the transaction, the Jets allowed Revis to visit the Buccaneers on Sunday morning. Revis was able to secure one of the best contracts in the NFL, aligning with other top players, including defensive end Mario Williams (six years, $132 million), and wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald (eight years, $113 million) received. Revis' 6-year contract was worth $96 million, making him the highest paid defensive back in NFL history, but there was no guaranteed money in the game.

The Buccaneers' 2013 first round pick (13th overall, used on Sheldon Richardson) and a fourth round conditional pick (which may have a third round pick) were sent by the Jets.

Revis made his Buccaneers debut on September 8, 2013, against his former club, the New York Jets. On September 29, he made his first interception as a Buccaneer against the Arizona Cardinals. Revis was selected to his 5th Pro Bowl, his first with Tampa Bay on December 27, his first with Tampa Bay. He was named SN Comeback Player of The Year after the season. Revis played in all 16 games with a sack, 2 interceptions, 11 passes blocked, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 50 tackles in his first and only season with Tampa Bay.

Despite Revis' stellar season, he was not the right choice for Tampa Bay's defensive system. Lovie Smith was hired to replace Greg Schiano, but he carried his Tampa 2 defense, not a shutdown corner. Revis, a celebrity man-to-man cornerback, was expected to be on the trade block due to his handsome $16 million salary for the 2014 season.

The Buccaneers released Revis after several failed attempts to trade him, making him an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

Revis agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on March 12, 2014, just hours after being drafted by the Buccaneers, extending over two years. In Revis' first and only season in New England, he had 47 tackles, 2 interceptions, 14 passes blocked, and 1 forced fumble. The Patriots finished the season 12–4.

Revis had two pass interference calls against wide receiver Steve Smith Sr in the Baltimore Ravens' divisional round playoff game. The Patriots will win the game 35–31 and advance to the AFC Championship game. Revis made an interception on Andrew Luck and the Patriots went on to beat the Indianapolis Colts 56-7.

This was Revis' first appearance at the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl XLIX, the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28–24. Revis was sacked and tackled in the game.

The Patriots did not pick up a $20 million option in Revis' contract to bring him back for a second year after the season.

On March 10, 2015, the New York Jets announced Revis as a five-year, $70 million contract with a $39 million guarantee. However, after the Patriots' charges were lodged, the Jets were the subject of an investigation into tampering. Woody Johnson, the Jets' owner, made a remark about Revis, who was then under lockout with New England at the time. Johnson was fined $100,000, but the Jets' counter-investigation into Patriots owner Robert Kraft's remarks about Revis after re-signing with New York was rejected by the league. On November 22, 2015, Revis sustained a concussion against the Houston Texans. He was selected to his seventh Pro Bowl and ranked 24th in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2016. Revis finished with 39 tackles, five interceptions, and nine passes defense in 14 games in 2015.

With opposing quarterback ratings at 91.7 compared to 59.3 his previous years, the 2016 season was one of Revis' worst outings. With 53 tackles, five passes defense, and one intercept, he ended 2016 in 15 games.

On February 28, 2017, the Jets announced that Revis would be released at the start of the free agency on March 9, 2017.

Revis signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on November 22, 2017. Revis was released by the Chiefs on February 8, 2018 after only playing six games for the team, including the playoffs.

Revis resigned from football after 11 seasons on July 18, 2018. Revis was honored at a mini-festival in New York on July 24, according to him. For his retirement, the Jets made a miniature makeshift "Revis" island.

The Jets face the Browns in a HOF game, and it's all about Aaron Rodgers

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 7, 2023
The NFL has revealed the complete preseason schedule, only three months from the start of the 2023-24 season, with all attention on Aaron Rodgers as the New York Jets take on the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game in August. Joe Thomas, a former Browns offensive lineman, was named as a first-ballot enshrinee in the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2023. The Jets weren't randomly selected either, as this year's class also includes two former Jets, cornerback Darrelle Revis, and defensive lineman Joe Klecko.

If Aaron Rodgers joins the Jets this offseason, Darrelle Revis advises him to "come in HUMBLE."

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 25, 2023
Aaron Rodgers' season will be a long season in New York, and Jets legend Darrelle Revis has made a friendly bet with the Packers quarterback if he change to a different shade of green. Though Rodgers last year signed a three-year contract, that could possibly keep him in Green Bay until 2026, ESPN reported in January that the franchise still needs to move forward' from the 39-year-old and trade him. The Jets - with their versatile receiving corps, stout defense, and a desperate need for a quarterback - have thus emerged as a potential landing spot for Rodgers, and Revis had some tips for the quarterback if the contract came to fruition.

Joe Thomas, Darrelle Revis, and DeMarcus Ware were among the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame graduates

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 10, 2023
Joe Thomas gave fans of the new Cleveland Browns something to celebrate. In his first attempt, the six-time All-Pro offensive lineman was on the list of inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, assembling fellow inductee and first-timer Darrelle Revis. Thomas was the first Browns Hall of Fame in the team's illustrious expansion period.
