In Sting's last match at the AEW Revolution, Darby Allin put on one of the most death-defying stunts in recent memory. Since joining AEW in December 2020, Allin has been aligned with the former WCW wrestler, with Sting as his mentor. In October, Sting announced that he would withdraw from in-ring competition this year, with the Dynamite pay-per-view scheduled to act as his send-off.

Chris Jericho was reportedly "knocked out" by a WWE star on one of All Elite Wrestling (AEW)'s cruise ship adventures back in 2020. On Wednesday night, Jericho made his first appearance on the wrestling circuit since AEW World's End, where he competed in an eight-man tag match with Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, and Sting. Guevara claimed victory over Ricky Starks on Wednesday, but he was later stabbed by his opponent and Big Bill, with Jericho coming in to save him.
