Daniele Rugani Career

Club career

Rugani, a boy from Lucca, Italy, began his football career with Empoli's Tuscan side in 2000, at the age of 6. He stayed in the club's youth academy for 12 years before being transferred to Juventus, a Serie A club on loan in August 2012 for €150,000. Rugani joined Juventus' Primavera (under 19) youth squad, where he was a regular starter in the team from 2012 to 2013, winning the Coppa Italia Primavera.

Rugani was bought by the club on 31 July 2013 in a co-ownership contract for €500,000 and then sent back to Empoli on a season-long loan agreement ahead of their 2013-14 Serie B campaign.

Rugani, Empoli's star defender during their productive season, had made 40 appearances and scored two goals for the club as a result of his age. In a 4–0 home win over Reggina, he scored his first career goal off a corner on March 22. The club finished the season in second place, gaining automatic promotion to Serie A, alongside the champions Palermo.

It was announced on June 18th that the two clubs' co-ownership deal would be renewed, with the player remaining with newly promoted Empoli for the 2014–15 Serie A campaign on loan from Juventus. Rugani made his Serie A debut on August 31, 2014, defeating Udinese 2–0 away, before scoring his first goal in Serie A on September 20. Juventus bought out the remaining half of Daniele Rugani's registration rights from Empoli for an additional €3.5 million on February 2nd. Rugani was a key player for Empoli this season, appearing in all 38 of Empoli's league matches that season without being substituted or booked, in addition to scoring 3 goals, finishing in 15th place in the league.

Rugani has officially returned to Juventus in the summer of 2015. He made his club debut in September 2015 when he came as a replacement in a 2–0 home victory over Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League group stage, while also making his European debut in the process. In the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia, he made his debut with the club on December 16th in a 4–0 victory over Torino, a cross-city rival, in the Derby della Mole. Andrea Barzagli, the club's veteran defender, came on for the team in the 56th minute of a 3–2 away victory over Carpi in the 56th minute. In a 2–1 away victory over Sampdoria in Serie A on January 10, 2016, he made his first league debut for the club. Rugani was in for the first time in his entire Serie A career, in his 53rd appearance in Serie A. In the 72nd minute of a 2–1 away victory over Fiorentina, he was granted a yellow card; he last played for Empoli on March 1, 2014, against Siena, he had a yellow card. Juventus clinched the league championship with three games to spare following Napoli's loss to Roma the day before.

Rugani scored his first goal for Juventus on September 21, 2016, defeating Cagliari 4–0 in a 4–0 home win on September 21, 2016. Rugani scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on his third appearance in the tournament on December 7, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 2–0. Rugani extended his stay at Juventus on December 14, securing a new deal that will run until 2021.

Rugani saw more playing time with Juventus in the 2017-18 season after the sale of Leonardo Bonucci to Milan in the summer of 2017. He made 22 Serie A appearances and 26 in all competitions, scoring two goals, two of which came in the league, as Juventus crowned a domestic double of the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

Rugani extended his contract with Juventus until June 2023, retaining him at the club until June 2023.

In a 2–0 away loss to Cagliari in Serie A, he made his 100th appearance for Juventus on July 29, 2020.

Rugani was loaned out to Rennes for the season on October 3, 2020, at a cost of €1.5 million.

Rugani took over Cagliari on a six-month loan on February 1, 2021. Rugani scored his first goal for the club on March 3rd, 2021, losing 1–0 in a home league match against Bologna.

International career

Rugani has represented Italy at various youth levels since 2010. In a European qualifier against Northern Ireland, where he scored his first goal for the azzurini in a 2–0 win, his first cap for the under-21 team came on March 5, 2014.

Antonio Conte had him called up to the senior Italy squad on November 9th, 2014, ahead of a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia and a friendly against Albania.

Luigi Di Biagio, the Italian U-21, participated in the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship under new Italian Under-21 Championship manager Luigi Di Biagio.

Rugani was one of three reserves for Antonio Conte's senior team for Euro 2016, on May 31.

Rugani made his international debut on September 1st in 2016, with newly appointed coach Gian Piero Ventura serving as a backup in a 3–1 friendly loss to France.

He was named in the Italy under-21 squad for the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship by head Di Biagio in June 2017. Following a 3–1 loss to Spain on June 27, Italy was eliminated in the semifinals.

Daniele Rugani is finally getting the recognition he so richly deserves under fire Napoli coach Rudi Garcia is not an elite coach, and Federico Dimarco's miracle strike is one of Italy's best ever goals. In Serie A, we learned TEN THINGS

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 14, 2023
Federico Dimarco scored an incredible goal against Frosinone on Sunday, making it an exact recreation of Alvaro Recoba's attack against Empoli in 1998. After noticing the Italian was a few meters off the goal line and immediately trapped on the wing with nowhere to go, the Inter defender unleashed an attack from just inside the halfway line over Frosinone's bewildering goalkeeper Stefano Turati. It will no doubt be one of the most beautiful goals in Serie A history. Fans have already become used to Dimarco running for 90 minutes, but few believed he had it in his locker.

ALVISE CAGNAZZO: EVERYONE in Juventus is for sale unless they are Champions League players

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 23, 2023
ALVISE CAGNAZZO: Juventus are having a nightmare right now, both on and off the field. The Old Lady discovered a 10-point deduction after a Federal Court decision just 15 minutes before their match 4-1 loss to Empoli on Monday. The huge fine has just ended the club's hopes of playing in the Champions League next season, and in turn, has put a dent in the club's finances - which will now cost more than £44 million (€50 million) per year. The Turin club is very similar to the Titanic. The squad's members are similar to the violinists on deck, crouching around and waiting for the ship to sink.
