Daniel Owino Misiani Career

Early life and career

Misiani was born in Nyamagongo, a peaceful village just north of Shirati in Mara Region, Tanzania, just north of Shirati, right next to Lake Victoria's eastern shore and the Kenyan border. His parents were actors, but he turned down a musical career due to religious reasons. Nevertheless, he went to Kenya in the 1960s to be a guitarist. In 1965, he first appeared with the Victoria Boys for the first time. The band renamed it many times before becoming well-known as a Shirati Jazz band. He sang mainly in Dholuo and Swahili languages. He is known as a pioneer of the Benga music genre. During his long career, he released several albums, including some overseas. He has been jailed on several occasions for writings that were deemed as pushing the boundaries into political criticism.

Robert Misiani, one of his sons, pursued a career as a hip hop performer under the stage name Gun B. Robert was best known for his film "Nampenda" (1968), which was a collaboration with Pilipili. Robert died on October 20, 2007, due to sickness.
