On album tracks by Disco Montego, Mark Ronson, and Phrase, his guest vocals are included.

His work with Ronson culminated in his arrival in the United Kingdom, including lead vocals on 2007 Ronson's "Stop Me If You Had Known This One Before" a Smiths tune.

Personal life

Daniel Paul Merriweather was born in a Melbourne suburb of Sassafras in the Dandenong Ranges and was the eldest of three boys for teacher parents. Both his parents are educators, and he has two brothers. Ted Ellis, his maternal grandfather, was also an Australian rules footballer for North Melbourne and Footscray, while Daniel is a Essendon supporter.

Merriweather attended The Patch Primary School, Billanook College, Blackburn High School, and Swinburne Senior Secondary College (for year 11) and left school when he was 17. He started playing violin lessons at the age of four; at age 13, he started playing guitar; at Blackburn High, his music ratings were average. As a youth, he was in a social context that nurtured violent tendencies, and was charged with assault on one occasion. After dropping out of school, he concentrated on music, taking vocal lessons, and performing in clubs around Melbourne.

Merriweather spent a considerable portion of his time between New York and London, as well as in East Harlem, where he spent a decade from 2009 to 2009. Merriweather has had a tattoo on his inside-right forearm, with the Latin word for "love or money" in the Latin language. Merriweather said in 2009 that he planned another tattoo for his back, a 100-word excerpt from Robert Hughes' book "Jim Jones" that includes "We toil and toil."

Daniel Merriweather's first commercially released recording was a guest appearance on Disco Montego's self-titled album in September 2002, which was released as a guest on the track "All I Want" on the track "All I Want." According to the ARIA Albums Chart, the album reached No. 17 on the ARIA Albums Chart. He signed to Marlin Records, which led to his collaboration with Mark Ronson, a UK DJ and guitarist, on the latter's debut album, "She's Got Me" and "NYC Rules") in September 2003. Merriweather performed on his debut solo single, "City Rules," which was a rewritten version of "NYC Rules." Ronson's Allido Records, which was released in Ronson's house, worked on his debut solo single "City Rules." It was created by Ronson and featured raps from New York MC Saigon and was released in early 2004. Other artists on the album include:?uestlove, The Black Eyed Peas' horn section, and members of Beck's backing band. At the 2004 festival, he was nominated for "City Rules" in the Best Urban Release category.

Merriweather's second single, "She's Got Me," was announced. Though neither of them appeared on the ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart, they became instant hits in clubs and urban music circles. The ARIA Music Awards of 2005 named "City Rules" as the Most Performed Dance Work category at the APRA Awards of 2005, and "She's Got Me" received the Best Urban Release category. Some of the major Australian commercial radio stations, "City Rules," received some airplay on FOX FM (Melbourne)/2Day FM and B105.

He co-wrote and co-produced much of Phrase's debut album Talk With Force in 2005, as well as lending vocals to three tracks, including the single "Catch Phrase." Merriweather was recording his debut album, The Fifth Season, with Ronson producing. However, Merriweather recalled in August 2011: "It was 12 songs out of a whole bunch of songs that I'd written." I had the intention of posting it on Wikipedia, but someone else had the idea of calling it The Fifth Season. But it wasn't really an album – it was just a collection of songs. There's a difference.

"Stop Me" was Ronson's lead vocals on a cover version of The Smiths' "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" was released in early 2007. It was re-composed with additional lyrics from The Supremes' song "You Keep Me Hangin' On." In a talk with The Guardian, Merriweather confessed that he was unaware of the Smiths song before recording the updated version: "I want you to sing on this - it's my favorite Smiths song," he said. I'd heard it before, but I'd never been a Smiths fan. But I thought it was beautiful." It was released on Columbia Records as a single in April and on Ronson's compilation album Version the same month. It was a commercial success in Ronson's native United Kingdom, where it ranked second on the UK Singles Chart, where it reached number two. On the Swiss and Italian Singles Charts, it reached the top 40. During Glastonbury 2008, Merriweather performed it.

Merriweather's debut solo album, Love & War, which Ronson also produced, debuted in June 2009 and peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and ranked in the top ten on the Swiss Albums Chart in the top ten. The singles "Change" (February) and "Red" (May), both of whom made the top ten on the UK Singles Chart, were preceded. On the Swiss Singles Top 75, "Change" debuted in the top ten. Although "Red" was a top-ten hit on the Danish and Irish Singles Charts, "Red" was a top ten hit on the Danish and Irish Singles Charts. Love & War reached the top 40 on the ARIA Albums Chart, while "Change" hit the top 50 on the related singles chart. He was named Best Male Artist Category for Love & War at the ARIA Music Awards in 2009.

In 2012, Merriweather appeared on Australian hip-hop artist Urthboy's single "Na" Bravado." Merriweather appeared on hip-hop outfit Diafrix's single, "Simple Man" earlier this year. Bliss N Eso, an Australian-American rap group, performed with Merriweather on the track "Can't Get Rid of This Feeling" in 2013. In Glastonbury, he appeared with DJ Mark Ronson on "Stop Me" a few years ago.

Merriweather's top influences are Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jeff Buckley, and Herbie Hancock.

Daniel released 'Everything I Want' in November 2019, his first single for ten years, followed by an album announcement. Merriweather's 'Rain' was announced on April 3, 2020.' Merriweather appeared on several sold-out London shows as well.
