As the first 14 rescue flights carrying 2,700 passengers leave Corfu, a holiday hellstorm is spreading to Corfu, as tourists are evacuated by sea from inferno

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 24, 2023
This morning, Mercy mission rescue flights will land in Rhodes and Corfu to save British holidaymakers (top right) who are trying to escape the fire-ravaged Greek islands, which are also boarding (lower right). In comparison to its nine scheduled flights, EasyJet reports they have two rescue flights totaling 421 seats on Monday and another on Tuesday. It comes after authorities started evacuating large swaths of Corfu's island, which is also popular with British holidaymakers (left), after fires sparked on Sunday (lower left).

Get us out of this hell! After flying by feet, car, and boat, Britain citizens were trapped in hours of delays at a packed Rhodes airport as the government announces that a response team will be sent to the island, but that easyJet will not repatriate until tomorrow

After fleeing raging wildfires by feet, truck, and boat, British families stranded on Rhodes' airport have been caught up in hours of delays, but easyJet will not return until tomorrow. As they battled through the deadly infernos on Greece's Greek island, which have caused the country's largest disaster evacuation in history, holidaymakers have characterized the scene as 'apocalyptic.' Several young children were photographed lying on the ground at Rhodes International Airport, while others were caught on the departures board as they desperately try to leave the island. The government said on Sunday afternoon that it was 'actively monitoring the fires in Rhodes' and in constant communication with the local authorities.' To assist British nationals at the airport, the Foreign Office has sent a Rapid Deployment team of five staff and four British Red Cross responders.

Two British mothers describe a terrifying escape from the Rhodes wildfires that pushed them and their terrified children to sleep in a hotel foyer before they hitched a lift to escape flames that were METRES away, according to a couple.'

Mothers in Rhodes have expressed their fear of their teenage boys' deaths after being forced to evacuate for their lives as a result of the island's horrific wildfires. Some families were forced to sleep on the beach away from the fires, while others were forced to wade out into the sea and jump into boats to escape the approaching disaster. Yesterday, more than 30,000 people were evacuated from the island, with others being required to leave their possessions behind when they seek asylum at other resorts. And those who have been affected by the uprising Greek authorities and well-meaning locals have blasted holiday agencies for a alleged lack of help. The two young children were 'left 'unconscious' after being forced to walk five miles in 42 degree heat to escape the fires yesterday, according to Abi Davies, who is on the island in a group of six boys aged four and six.
