Danger Mouse Career

Early life and music career beginnings

Brian Joseph Burton was born in White Plains, New York. He spent a large portion of his childhood in Spring Valley, New York. Burton then moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, where he attended and graduated from Redan High School. He lived in Athens, Georgia, where he obtained a degree in telecommunications at the University of Georgia on scholarship, as well as his trip hop projects (The Chilling Effect (1999), Rhode Island (2004), and Pelican City vs. Scanner (2002)) were released as students. While at the University of Georgia, he was introduced to Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and Portishead, as well as the indie rock scene in Athens, including Neutral Milk Hotel and DJ'd for University of Georgia radio station WUOG-FM. Burton produced a series of remix CDs and singles under the stage name Danger Mouse from 1998 to 2003. He was too afraid to reveal his smile and took his name from the British cartoon character Danger Mouse.

Music career

Burton took second place in a 1998 talent competition in Athens, and was invited to perform OutKast and Goodie Mob at the University of Georgia. Burton claims he approached CeeLo Green, a member of Goodie Mob, and gave him a critical demo tape. CeeLo has no recollection of this, and the existence of the instrumental demo tape has never been confirmed. Trey Reames, who had marketed CeeLo's first solo shows in Georgia, migrated to London and became Burton's first boss. CeeLo's appearance on the Danger Mouse and Jemini Remix of the Danger Mouse and Jemini records was both conceived and arranged by him. When Burton first met CeeLo for this project, he recalled some beats that led to their collaboration as Gnarls Barkley.

Burton lived in New Cross, London, for a few years, and was working at the Rose pub near London Bridge. He sent a demo to Lex Records, which then signed him. Burton moved to Los Angeles; his first original releases under the name Danger Mouse, including the single Ghetto Pop Life, were released on Lex Records in 2003. Critics loved the Danger Mouse debut, but critics didn't rise to fame until he released The Grey Album, a cappella version of Jay-Z's The Black Album, which was also known as The White Album. The remix album, which was originally intended for his colleagues, was released on the internet and became extremely popular with both the general public and critics, with Rolling Stone naming it the best remix album of the year and Entertainment Weekly naming it as the best record of the year. He spoke about any element of the album that may have appeared in the film Alternative Freedom, which seemed to be apprehension. Danger Mouse was named as one of the People of the Year by GQ in 2004 and then received the 2005 Wired Rave Award.

Damon Albarn, who enlisted Danger Mouse to produce Gorillaz' second studio album, Demon Days, was attracted by the Grey Album. Burton received a Grammy Award nomination for Producer of the Year at Demon Days.

The Mouse and the Mask was Danger Mouse's next project, as a result of MF Doom's (as Danger Doom)'s Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. The two had worked together on the Danger Mouse remix of Zero 7's "Somersault," Prince Po's "Social Distortion") and Gorillaz' "November Has Come" on the Gorillaz. Danger Doom's Occult Hymn EP came a year later. On Adult Swim's website, the 7-track EP featured new songs as well as remixes of tracks from The Mouse & The Mask.

Josh Klinghoffer, the future Chili Peppers' drummer, appeared on the Gnarls Barkley tour. He produced two songs on The Rapture's album Pieces of the People We Love in 2006. Sparklehorse's fourth album, Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain, was released in the fall of 2006, a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips. Danger Mouse worked with British graffiti artist Banksy to replace 500 copies of Paris Hilton's album Paris with updated album artwork and a 40-minute instrumental song with different claims she had made in August and September 2006.

Danger Mouse's latest collaboration on The Good, the Bad & the Queen, with Damon Albarn, former The Verve guitarist Simon Tong, and Africa 70 drummer Tony Allen, was born in January 2007.

Billy Butlin's revolving restaurant, bomb terror and attack by a giant kitten on The Goodies: How the BT Tower became an icon of British life

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 22, 2024
The BT Tower's transformation into a luxurious hotel in London is only the latest in the city's colourful 60-year history. The looming structure, which opened in 1966 as the Post Office Tower, ruled London for 14 years, most notably hosting Billy Butlin's revolving restaurant. It survived a terrorist bomb attack in 1971, which thankfully saw no one dead, as well as the development of a huge cat in The Goodies' 1970s parody of King Kong.

Even though he doesn't have planning permission for the Tower, the new American owner promises that the Grade II-listed London landmark he bought for £275 million will be 'an iconic hotel.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 22, 2024
Tyler Morse, the MCR Hotels chief executive, unveiled his grandiose vision for the communications tower in Fitzrovia, London. He proclaimed it to be a 'unique gift you can take your sweetie to,' but he didn't know how many rooms the 581-ft tall structure would have, which has been closed to the public for more than five decades. Mr Morse vowed that "it would be open to the world" as he blasted rumors that it would be a luxurious hotel for the wealthy. However, Londoners and Britons will have to wait years before seeing the American's dreams come true, with blueprints for the project that haven't even been drawn up.

The landmark BT Tower in London has been sold to an American firm for £275 million and will be turned into a 'iconic hotel'

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 21, 2024
Following the auction of the grade-II listed building by an American firm, London's most popular BT Tower landmark will be turned into a 'iconic hotel.' MCR Hotels acquired the Grade-III listed communications tower in central London's Fitzrovia neighborhood. Around 150 hotels are owned by the US hotels chain, including the historic landmark Eero Saarinen-designed TWA Hotel in New York City.
