Daniel G. Hedaya (born July 24, 1940) is an American actor.

He developed himself as a supporting actor, playing sleazy villains or wisecracking supporting characters.

He has appeared in films such as True Confessions (1981), The Adventures of Buckaroo (1990), The Wind at the Rigway (1991), Joseph and Margaret's Room (1995), The Addams Family (1991), The Addams Family (1995), Anders (1996), A Night at the Roxbury (both 1999), The Hurricane, Dick (1993), Robson (1995), Warnings (1994), and Strangers with Candy (both 2005).

Life and career

Hedaya was born in New York City to a Sephardic Jewish family from Aleppo, Syria. Hedaya was born in Bensonhurst and brought him his first child. He began performing at Tufts University as a student. He served as a junior high school coach for many years before deciding to pursue acting full-time. He studied at HB Studio in New York City.

Hedaya has appeared in several television roles, including Carla Tortelli's ex-husband Nick on the sitcom Cheers and its short-lived spinoff The Tortellis, as well as a fruitful career in film. On the sitcom Family Ties, he played the late father of Mallory Keaton's son, Nick. In the controversial and quickly ended NBC series The Book of Daniel, he played an Italian-American priest. Adrian Monk's appearance as the long-lost father of the Monk family is another one to his list of television credits. He appeared on the medical drama ER in 1997 and 2005 as a nascent prosecutor.

In 1985's Commando and Mel Horowitz, the father of Alicia Silverstone's Cher, Hedaya has played both the evil dictator and the secondary antagonist Arius. In the first Coen Brothers film Blood Simple, Julian Marty played a cuckolded husband plotting his wife's murder. For the film Dick, his resemblance to Richard Nixon resulted in his casting as the former president. Hedaya appeared in many episodes of the television series Hill Street Blues as a corrupt, bigamist cop in the series's first season. Hedaya appeared in the television series Miami Vice in the 1980s as a teenager.

Hedaya is often seen in Italian-American roles, owing to his Syrian Jewish descent.
