Early life and education
Damla Sönmez is the only child of Circassian descent. Her father is an engineer and programmer, and her mother is an architect. Theater and cinema were her first passion as a child. She began studying at theater studios right away. Damla performed on stage and gained a following on television as a child. She was already promising for a promising future in those years.
She was accepted into the Theatre Department of Université de La Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris after graduating from Saint Joseph French High School in Istanbul. She studied in Paris for a year before being granted a scholarship to Istanbul's Yeditepe University Fine Arts Theatre Department. Sönmez has also studied semi-time violin and 1 year piano at Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. She had attended Jillian O'Dowd's Contemporary Acting Workshop at the London Dramatic School of Arts later on and spent time with Stuart Burney at the Black Nexus Academy in New York.
Career
She appeared in Bornova Bornova and received the "Best Supporting Actress" award at the 46th Golden Orange Film Festival in 2009, as well as other accolades at the Sadri Al-k Awards and the Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival. She was the Young President of the Festival at the 18th Golden Boll Film Festival in 2015, receiving the Best Actress Award at the Milano International Film Festival (MIFF) for her role in the film "Sea Level (Deniz Seviyesi).
She appeared on television programs Emret Komutanm, Gece Gündüz, and Türkan. In the film 'ubat, she was cast as a bride who suffers from memory loss. Bir Aşk Hikayesi, an adaptation of I'm Sorry, I Love You, where she appeared in Ceylan alongside actor Seçkin zdemir, was her first leading role.
