Dag Arnesen Career

Career

Arnesen was born in Bergen and studied classical piano with Jiri Hlinka at the Bergen Music Conservatory, where he was given a commitment by Den Nationale Scene. He returned to jazz and performed with the Arvid Genius' orchestra in the 1970s, as well as conducting his own Trios, Quartets, and Septetter og 13'tets. Several songs were released under his own name, but he is now a member of the Bergen Big Band. Arnesen has lived in Oslo and performed in the jazz bands SYr, Orleysa, several groups led by late Norwegian guitarist Thorgeir Stub, singer Susanne Fuhr, saxophonist Knut Riisn, and orchestra leader Kjell Karlsen. He has been a member of the Bergen-based Sigurd Ulveseth Quartet on three occasions, and Arnesen has also played with the local Evans Jazzclub.

His melodic style has been likened to that of Jan Johansson.
