Crystal Cox Career

Career

At the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics, Cox received a gold medal in the women's 4x400 m relay. Since admitting to doping, she was denied the gold in 2012. In Athens, she qualified in the preliminary round but not in the final. In the final, DeeDee Trotter, Monique Henderson, Sanya Richards, and Monique Hennagan competed. She was the American indoor 200 m champion in 2004.

Cox admitted to using anabolic steroids from 2001 to 2004, according to Associated Press and ESPN.com. As a result, she forfeited all of her achievements from the time period and committed to a four-year suspension that came as a result in January 2014. The IAAF has recommended that the entire U.S. women's 2004 Olympic 4x400 meters relay team be stripped of their medals. Both the IAAF and the IOC announced in 2013 that the American squad (except Cox) will be allowed to keep their gold medals.
