Craig Gazey (born 24 February 1982) is a British stage and television actor best known for his portrayal of Graeme Proctor in Coronation Street, an ITV soap.
Early life
Gazey attended Our Lady's Roman Catholic High School in Royton, Oldham. His family lives in the immediate area. He attended Eggbuckland Community College from 1998 to City College Plymouth, where he studied BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts. He went on to study acting at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff, which he graduated in 2005.
Career
Gazey appeared on stage before gaining his television debut, most notable in the role of Launcelot Gobbo in a Globe Theatre performance of The Merchant of Venice in 2007.
Gazey joined the cast of Coronation Street in April 2008, portraying Graeme Proctor, a prison cellmate of established character David Platt. Gazey returned in November 2008 as a series regular after only agreeing to a short-term contract. Gazey continued to appear on the program for three years and gained a following with viewers, winning the National Television Awards' "Best Newcomer" and "Best Comedy Performance" awards. Gazey made television appearances on Loose Women and Celebrity Juice during his time on the soap. In a special edition of The Jeremy Kyle Show, he and fellow Coronation Street cast members Jack P. Shepherd, Michelle Keegan, and Ben Price appeared as Graeme.
He appeared in the West End theatre performance, Third Floor, after leaving Coronation Street. He toured the United Kingdom in the comedy Funny Peculiar with Suzanne Shaw and former Coronation Street co-star Vicky Entwistle in 2012. In 2013, he appeared in a stage adaptation of The Full Monty at Sheffield, followed by a tour and a season in the West End. Gazey appeared in The Hypochondriac with Sir Tony Robinson and Imogen Stubbs at the Theatre Royal Bath in October 2014, followed by a tour. He appeared in Celebrity Masterchef for the BBC in 2015.
