Corey Burton Career

Career

Burton began his career at the age of 17 under the stage name Corey Weinman, with an imitating of Hans Conried for Disney. He worked with almost every one of the original Hollywood radio actors in classic-style radio dramas for four years before becoming a radio actor with Daws Butler. He was hesitant to pursue voice work at first due to his shy demeanor and Autism Spectrum Disorder, but now he uses Disney's The Haunted Mansion attraction's diverse world and character layout as his inspiration. Throughout 124 episodes of Adventures in Odyssey, a series by the Evangelical Christian group Focus on the Family, he portrayed 169 different characters.

Burton has done extensive voice-over for Disney, including animated features and theme park attractions at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and Tokyo Disney Resort. He is the "Feature Presentation" voice on direct-to-video video product launches, and he can be heard as Disneyland's narration voice. He appeared in Disney's Return to Never Land and dubbed the voice of Deems Taylor in Fantasia in 2000 and 2010.

For more than 50 Disney Storyteller stories, Burton has performed sound-alikes and original characters.

His roles include:

Burton imitated Frees' voice as the Ghost Host in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction after voice actor Paul Frees died. In the opening of The Haunted Mansion film version, he recited the classic line "Welcome, foolish mortals."

For the introduction to the original Haunted Mansion ride, he was able to record a new safety video. He declined, and the performance was instead hosted by voice actor Joe Leahy.

Several newer pirates in Disneyland Park (such as the "Pooped Pirate" and the pirate voice that leads you on and off the boat) as well as several others in Mr. Toad's Wild Ride include several voices.

Stan Freberg's Album Stan Freberg's The United States of America, Volume Two, he did another Frees impersonation.

In Larry Blamire's 2008 film Trail of the Screaming Forehead, he performed a Frees imitation as the voice of the announcer in the 1999 film Dudley Do-Right and did likewise as the voices of the alien foreheads.

Burton re-recorded all of Deems Taylor's comments in the 60th Anniversary Edition and the 2010 special edition of Disney's Fantasia.

In the original Transformers animated film by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions, Burton appeared as Shockwave, Sunstreaker, Brawn, and Spike Witwicky. Megatron, Ratchet, Ironhide, Brawn, Cyrus "The Colossus" Rhodes, Spike Witwicky, and Longarm Prime / Shockwave in Transformers will be voiced by Cartoon Network later this year.

In an interview, Burton said that Shockwave was by far his favorite character to play in the original film. Despite this, he turned down the opportunity to reprise his role in Transformers: Dark of the Moon because he felt the character had been read enough times. According to Frank Welker, the voice of Megatron/Galvatron, the part was given.

Burton appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Count Dooku, Cad Bane, and Ziro, the Hutt, and has also proclaimed Cad Bane in Star Wars: The Bad Batch and The Book of Boba Fett. He has also voiced several characters in video games.

Burton portrayed Ansem the Wise in Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance due to Christopher Lee's health issues. He re-dubbed Lee's lines for the Nintendo DS version of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days in the cinematic version of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. For Kingdom Hearts III, he reprised his role as Ansem the Wise.

In the DC animated universe, Burton has depicted the supervillain Brainiac. In Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Static Shock, and Justice League Unlimited, he appeared as the protagonist. Despite not being set in the DCAU, he reprised his role in Legion of Super Heroes, DC Universe Online, and Lego DC Super Viillains.
