Corbin Dean Bernsen (born September 7, 1954) is an American actor and director, known for his work on television.

He is known for his roles as divorce attorney Arnold Becker on the NBC drama series L.A.

Law, as Dr.

Alan Feinstone in The Dentist, as retired police detective Henry Spencer on the USA Network comedy-drama series Psych, and as Roger Dorn in the films Major League, Major League II, and Major League: Back to the Minors.

He has also appeared regularly on other shows, including General Hospital and Cuts.

Early life

Bernsen was born in North Hollywood, California, the eldest son of Harry Bernsen Jr., a Hollywood producer, and veteran soap actress Jeanne Cooper, who appeared on The Young and the Restless. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1972. Bernsen is also a "double Bruin," having received both a BA in Theatre Arts in 1977 and an MFA in Playwriting in 1979 from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Personal life

Bernsen was married to Brenda Cooper from 1983 to 1987. Bernsen has been married to British actress Amanda Pays since 1988. They have four sons: Oliver, Angus, Henry and Finley. Pays and Bernsen moved to the Hudson Valley in upstate New York in 2019 where he now focuses on film and television projects that can be shot locally.

In 2008, Bernsen and his family appeared on the ABC show Celebrity Family Feud, defeating the Margaret Cho family before losing to the crew from American Chopper.

Bernsen has one of the largest snow globe collections in the world, with 9,000 globes.

Career

Bernsen played lawyer Arnold Becker on the Steven Bochco television series L.A. Law in 1986, after two years on Ryan's Hope. The series was a hit, and his role earned him Emmy and Golden Globe accolades, appearances on magazine covers, and guest-starring appearances on Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show. He stayed on L.A. law for the entire duration of the show until it ended in 1994.

Bernsen appeared in the films Kounterfeit and Aurora: Operation Intercept with British actor Bruce Payne. In the horror film The Dentist and its sequel, he appeared as the title character, Dr. Alan Feinstein. Bernsen was also portrayed as a prima donna third baseman in the sports comedy Major League, and he appeared in both of the film's sequels. Bernsen portrayed John Durant on GM from September 2004 to May 2006, when the actor was killed in May 2006.

Bernsen appeared on Celebrity Mole twice, and appeared on Boston Legal as a lawyer. On Star Trek: The Next Generation, he appeared as Q2 in Q2: The Next Generation. Captain Owen Sebring of the military drama JAG also appeared on JAG's crew, and he appeared as a Republican senator on two episodes of The West Wing. In the horror film Dead Air, he directed, produced, and appeared. Bernsen appeared in USA's Psych, as Henry Spencer, the father of the main character, Shawn Spencer (James Roday). Bernsen plays a retired minister who returns to his hometown in Rust.

Bernsen appeared in 25 Hill, a film he made, directed, and wrote about the All-American Soap Box Derby, and he's planning on a baseball film about zombies, titled Three Strikes, You're Dead.

In season 1, episode 22 (2012), "Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time," he appeared as a guest star in Switched at Birth, the ABC Family television series. On the television series The Resident, Bernsen currently appears as Kyle Nevin.

Bernsen, president and co-owner of Public Media Works, a new media business that creates targeted fan bases. He produced and appeared in Carpool Guy, the company's first film; it was aimed at soap opera enthusiasts and was released on DVD in 2005.

Bernsen joined Team Cherokee Productions later that year. Bernsen traded a role in Donna on Demand to Kyle MacDonald in June 2006 for a snow globe of the band KISS, according to the book One Red Paperclip. MacDonald eventually traded for a two-story farmhouse in this role.

Bernsen concentrated on books that explored faith in today's world and how it can help, but also tends to divide our common humanity. Rust was Sony Pictures' first film to be released in 2010. Bernsen, alongside production partner Chris Aronoff, formed Home Theater Films, an independent production company that produces, produces, and markets films and television shows. In July 2012, 25 Hill, the company's first title, was released. This was followed by three days Test (2012), Beyond the Heavens (2013), and Life with Dog (2017). In the fall of 2020, the 4 Mayor's new film Mary 4 Mayor will be released.

Bernsen's debut book was published in October 2015 by the Pelican Book Group in October. The book, Rust: the Novel, is an adaptation of Bernsen's 2010 feature film Rust, in which he played the main protagonist and served as writer and director. Bernsen and his partner, Amanda Pays, have co-authored two books, Change Houses, Not Spouses, and Open House: Reimagining Space for Simple Life, a coffee table book that showcases renovation and design tips that they learned from remodeling their own homes.

Two new names have been confirmed for inclusion in The Sterling Affairs, the FX miniseries about former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, which resulted in his lifetime ban from the NBA, include Harriet Samson Harris and Corbin Bernsen. Deadline announced Tuesday that Yvonna Pearson, Jock McKissic, Darryl Wesley, Rich Sommer, and Clifton Davis had all been cast in the forthcoming miniseries.
