Contessa Brewer Career

Career

Brewer joined MSNBC in September 2003 after being with WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. She has also worked for KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, California, from 1997 to 1999, and KRNV-TV in Reno, Nevada. Journal Communications owned KMIR and WTMJ-TV.

Brewer appeared on the Morning radio show in spring 2005 briefly as a news reader on the Imus. Her tenure was brief; she became embroiled in a public feud with Don Imus after the New York Post announced a gossip column in which she was allegedly overheard disparaging the radio personality. Imus replied on air with his own disparaging remarks directed at Brewer. She appeared on Verdict as the news reader before it was cancelled in 2008. She and Dan Abrams will address the day's "Winners and Losers," as well as reader responses. She appeared on MSNBC Live at noon every week until her resignation on August 26, 2011.

Senator Judd Gregg, a visitor on It's the Economy hosted by Brewer and Melissa Francis in January 2010, called for layoffs in the federal budget. Brewer pressed Gregg, asking, "What programs are you able to cut?" as Gregg failed to respond to Francis' concerns about the specific cuts he approved. Is it possible to inform schools that no money is available? Gregg responded by saying that Brewer was "absurd," "irresponsible" and "lacked "integrity" for her interview process, and that "education funding for education will be reduced," she said in her introduction to me.

On August 17, Brewer was chastised by conservative blogs for a tale about a man carrying an AR-15 rifle at an Obama appearance in Phoenix, Arizona. "You have a man of color in the presidency, and white people will show up with guns tied to their waists or legs," MSNBC said.

Brewer was chastised for a remark she made about the Times Square car bombing attempt in May 2010.

Brewer said in an interview with MSNBC's Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) about the debt issue on July 20, 2011. "We were thinking about going... reverting a depression at that time." "Do you have a degree in economics?" Brewer asked as Brooks denied. "Yes ma'am, I do," Brooks replied. "Awarded the highest accolades." "Mo graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, earning highest distinctions in economics, according to his congressional web site." He graduated from the University of Alabama Law School in 1978. Brewer wrote on her Facebook page after the interview that she "just found out why lawyers are told not to ask a question they don't know the answer to."

Brewer announced on August 26, 2011, at the conclusion of her regular anchoring hour on MSNBC, that she will no longer be serving as an anchor for the network. Brewer said she will continue to air Caught on Camera and receiving news for NBC News, but that she will be looking at other possibilities in the future.

Brewer began doing fill-in anchor work for WNBC in New York City in March 2012, mainly on weekends.

Brewer became a reporter and fill-in anchor on CNBC full time in 2017.
