Colm J. Meaney (Irish: Colm Maonaigh), an Irish actor and voice actor known for playing Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1999) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999).
He has appeared on several television shows, including Law & Order and The Simpsons, and appeared on Hell on Wheels as Thomas Durant. Early life
Meaney was born in Finglas, Dublin. He began studying acting at the age of 14, and after secondary school, he attended Abbey Theatre School of Acting. He became a member of the Irish National Theatre and spent the next eight years in England, including the 7:84 theatre company founded by John McGrath.

Career
Meaney's first television appearance on television 1 in 1978 was in Z-Cars. He appeared on shows such as Remington Steele and Moonlighting before embarking on a fruitful film career; he received a Golden Globe Award for his role in The Snapper.
Meaney was first seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Encounter at Farpoint" in 1987 as an unidentified helm officer. Miles O'Brien became a common character in the crew as the Transporter Chief, and he was given the nickname Miles O'Brien as he became more popular in the crew. Meaney left The Next Generation in 1993 for a principal role in its spin-off Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and stayed on the show until its final episode in 1999. With 225 appearances on Star Trek, he has more appearances on the franchise than any other actor, including Michael Dorn.
In the 1994 miniseries Scarlett, the sequel to Gone With the Wind, Meaney appeared alongside Colum O'Hara. He has appeared on Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and appeared as Cowen, the leader of the Genii on the Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy) series Stargate Atlantis, and appeared on The ABC show Men in Trees as Bob O'Donnell. He was the only actor to appear in all three film adaptations of Roddy Doyle's The Rabbitte Trilogy, in which he played the father of the Rabbitte family.
