The coffee shop mural in SoCal is 'too violent,' for a place with a history of gang violence

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 29, 2023
Residents of one SoCal neighborhood are outrage over a 'violent' new mural outside a coffee shop that depicts black figures apparently fighting and stabbing each other. The mural appeared outside the Unincorporated Coffee Roasters in Altadena, and locals started yelling that they hadn't been consulted straight away. 'It's negative, it's violent, and it doesn't belong,' She'She Yancy, a resident of KTLA, told KTLA, "It doesn't belong." Not in a black neighborhood or a neighborhood of color.' This is inaccurate.' According to a Los Angeles Times article, the neighborhood has never been exposed to gang violence in the past. Art is a mark of expression.' In a statement released Monday, real art would bring a feeling in a person, one way or another.' In part, Cleon Peterson, the artist who made the mural, told DailyMail.com, 'It's sad that in this case, a select group of people in the neighborhood has used the work as a platform to be divisive and destructive, which contradicts its original intention in every way.'
