Claire Elizabeth Foy (born 16 April 1984) is an English actress.
She studied acting at the University of Liverpool John Moores University and the Oxford School of Drama, and made her screen debut in the pilot of the supernatural comedy series Being Human in 2008.
She appeared in the BBC One miniseries Little Dorrit (2008) and made her film debut in the American historical fantasy drama Season of the Witch (2011), after her professional stage debut at the Royal National Theatre.
Foy has been praised for portraying ill-fated queen Anne Boleyn in the miniseries Wolf Hall (2015), following her leading roles in the television series The Promise (2011) and Crossbones (2014). Early life
Claire Elizabeth Foy was born in Stockport on April 16, 1984, the youngest of three children. She has an older brother, Robert, and an older sister, Gemma. Caroline is the daughter of a "significant" Irish family, according to her; her maternal grandparents are from Dublin and Kildare. She grew up in Manchester and Leeds, and the family later moved to Longwick for her father's work as a Rank Xerox salesman. When she was eight years old, her parents divorced. Through her father's second marriage, she has a younger half-sister. Foy attended Aylesbury High School from the age of 12 and later studied drama at Liverpool John Moores University. She completed a one-year course at the Oxford School of Drama in 2007, graduating in 2007 and transferring to London's Peckham neighborhood to share a house with five classmates from drama school.

Career
Foy appeared in the plays Top Girls, Watership Down, Easy Virtue, and Touched while at the Oxford School of Drama. She made her professional debut in DNA and The Miracle, two of a trio of single acts directed by Paul Miller at the Royal National Theatre in London (the third was Baby Girl).
In the BBC series Little Dorrit, Foy starred as the protagonist, Amy Dorrit. She was selected for an RTS Award. She went on to appear in the television film Going Postal and the horror film Season of the Witch. Foy appeared in the BBC revival of Downstairs Downstairs as Lady Persephone, and co-starred in Channel 4's No. 3 serial The Promise, which premiered in February 2011.
